This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I am holding off on advertising her, haven’t even changed her picture from 6mos old on our website. She’s got an outstanding pedigree, her granddam is a daughter of Doc O’Lena, her other granddam is Goer bred and her grandsire is Prez who is Goer, Executive, Skipper W. She inherited the halter looks and cow conformation and moves with the speed of light :) Thing is, I’d love to see her go to someone who would campaign her - she’s also in the Breeder’s Trust so would be making money with her points.
She is a sweetheart though even if she is too slow and she excels at other trials. And she’s beautiful. And any dog that can read your mind and moods is worth a million.
It’s back up in the mid 90’s here. Thankfully, we don’t have to deal with much humidity.
Your commute does not sound good at all so please take extra care. Thank God you aren't having to run around New York or Chicago.
Since she's "gone about as fur as she can go" in agility, we're just moving on to something else. I got into this performance stuff just to keep her happy, after all.
(all my animals have pedigrees a lot longer than mine. Of course, they reproduce faster, but still . . . )
She is a very special dog. There are lots of good dogs but the special ones are hard to find.
Yikes! My husband used to commute through Newark back in the 70s, had to walk 6 blocks along Broad Street to get from the Pennsy to the Lackawanna . . . but darn it, he’s 6’6”, 240#, and carried a shillelagh.
:) well there’s lots of horses out there with the winning pedigrees, but it’s cool that she’s got looks and ability - of course I can’t say that out loud, we already have too many “can not ever sell” horses.
She found us! I was looking at a litter of 5 week old black Lab pups with the idea of putting a reservation on one, but while we were touring the kennels we passed a puppy yard with 9 little black and chocolate 12 week old pups. The breeder explained that these were the product of a semi-experimental breeding between a field Lab bitch and one of her show dogs . . . we played with them, and the littlest (and boldest) Choc just attached herself to my kids and wouldn’t leave them alone — licking their knees and hands, sitting on their feet, and playing “get between” to keep all the other puppies away from them. I spoke with her and she gave me a big kiss . . . . we picked her up one week later!
The "can't-ever-sells" DO accumulate, don't they? I used to have that problem with my show cats . . . . I was well on my way to being one of those crazy old ladies with a million cats, but now I'm going to be one of those crazy old ladies with a million dogs instead.
Well, eventually we'll find the perfect homes for a bunch of the can't ever sells. I always hope our horses go to people who love them but some just have the ability that you want to see exposed. CJ would make an okay trail horse but she would be an outstanding reining horse :)
Well, I'm off to make zucchini bread I think. I have to think of something to do with all the squash I picked just now - the fridge is already full.
send some zucchini bread my way...please
do you know how to make chocolate, chocolate zucchini cake?
Good morning.
I’m riding with Julia this morning.
Becky
Have a great ride, Becky! I wanted to go camping and riding this weekend, but my daughter is not too excited about it. The weather for the next few days does not look very good either. High temps and t-storms.
Chocolate chocolate zucchini cake? Sounds really good!
chocolate and zucchini recipes.
Haven't made any of these, but I've found AllRecipes.com to be fairly reliable, if you stick to the 4 star and above recipes.
I’m going to have to call Debbie this morning. Just got back from feeding and the foal is getting way to adventurous to continue moving him as I am. Today he was heading over to the runs to visit with the horse’s there. Mom started freaking on the lead, so he came charging back, and veered off to go explore the dog run, that was open....mom, was running back and forth on the lead...he finally came on in the round pen, but I don’t think it’s a good thing to continue this. I’m hoping she says to just leave them in the round pen. Then nights are very nice so there is no reason they have to be in the barn anyway.
Becky
Good morning all...
Yeah - if it’s nice, maybe they can just stay out. How many more days?
Have a good ride with Julia!
I lunged both of ours yesterday... Gonna do that again today.... heck, maybe we’ll even get to ride this weekend, so I want the horses to be ready :~)
