The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I took pictures of CJ tonight when I got home from work. It started raining as I walked out :) however, only a few drops. Better than nothing though. Anyway, CJ is almost 1 1/2 yr old now. I took the pictures to make up a sale flyer, although I think Bob will decide to keep her - he really wants to send her to Kelly next year. We'll see, when I win the lottery I guess. She has not been trained to stand square, obviously. My comment on that was "whose fault is that anyway" :)

CJ at 6mos old.

CJ at 1 year old.

CJ tonight.

She's our changling :)

I think she’s really stunning. She was a cute bay foal, but she’s turned into something really striking :~)

If you can talk tuffy into keeping hers, and MT into keeping hers, we can side with Bob in seeing how CJ turns out at 2 or 3 :~)

Well, I did say ~if I win the lottery~

She's never going to be a calm laid back western pleasure horse. Her breeding is a lot of cow horse, reining horse and it shows although she could do halter in a heartbeat.

Her color keeps changing - more white, less white :) and rarely does she look sedate.

She would definitely attract attention on the trails. You can’t tell it from the pictures but she’s tiny, only about 14.2, so she may be harder to sell. I took some videos of her, this one is ready to view:

I love the coloring on that horse! What a color change she went through. She looks like she’s been standing in the snow.

Apps are great for that. One of our Apps, Gabby, has gone from brown to grey. (She's much nicer looking at this stage). But BOY I love that coloring. She looks like she's covered in powdered sugar or wearing painters overalls. :-) You and Tuffy both have horses that I want. (When I hit the lottery!)Where do you have the ad? My trainer loves Appys.

Oh don't count on it. She'd be perfect for a small adult and get alot of notice in the ring.

MAN! That filly just knocks my socks off every time I see her. I believe she's the LAST one I'd be selling if she was mine. That color pattern is SO unusual. I've seen it in brown and white quite a bit, but never on a black and white.

Good Morning.

Beautiful pictures of your horses, Tuffy and Duchess. Both fillies are really sharp.

Good Morning Everyone.

I had a really rough commute this morning. Some weirdo on the commuter rail caused a scene this morning, yelling and swearing and trying to take out the conductor. He was extremely unstable, and had to be forcebly removed from the train at the next stop. Then at the train station, I tried to go to the Dunkin' Donuts to buy a donut, (had a huge craving) and the woman refused to sell me one because I didn't have a small enough bill. (It was a 20, and I felt really bad about it, but I had used up my last singles paying for parking) So I bought a coffee too, and she said to me: "What, you don't have the change?"

You have no idea how much I wanted to smack her. I'm pretty mellow, but nothing makes more teeth clenching, blood boiling angry than when someone is rude. I recognize that I was in the wrong for paying with a 20 when I was only buying a donut, but that last statement really pushed me over the edge. I hate rudeness, I really do. They also get really peeved when you try to pay with a debit card. Being in Boston, I don't carry cash on me as a general rule in case my pocketbook gets stolen. The cards you can cancel immediately, but you can't get back the cash.

Yes, I can see who the draw reins are set up. That is the way I have mine. Oh I agree, he does need a lot of wet saddle blankets and would make a nice riding horse. But after I saw him buck off Tammy, bees or not, I am about half afraid to get on him. At my age, things break and don't heal as fast. 20 years ago, I would have no problem taking on the challenge.

Even with such a strong Western Pleasure background (Zippo) I doubt he will ever slow down. His stride is just too long. English, dressage or games would suit him more. I will continue with the ground work and see how he comes along. He has a great personality and is not spooky at all.

That does sound like the commute from hell! And the donut lady was an A-Number-One you know what for treating you that way about the $20. Dangit, money is money and it’s her job to take it and give you your change. When she said “What, you don’t have the change?” I would’ve said “No. If I’d’ve had the change I would’ve given it to you and not had to stand here and take all this crap from you about giving me my change, so get off my case.” And as far as a debit card goes, I wouldn’t have one of those for anything. Credit cards are a whole lot safer. At least when somebody steals one of those and charges up a bunch of stuff, you know the credit card company is going to bend over backwards to get THEIR money back. But they aren’t all that concerned when it’s YOUR money. There was a cases on the news just the other night where it was over 6 months before the person got their money back when their debit card was stolen. :-/

LOL, I’d give anything to be that quick on the draw. I usually don’t think of any snappy comebacks until an hour after the confrontation.

she does have both her Excellent titles, most dogs never make it past Novice let alone Open. She'll just never make Master Agility Champion because her times are too slow.

Hi all! Still trying to catch up on the list. I have been in Houston, TX at the big World Series of dog shows. I came home with two new champions, my Irish Setter "Bonnie" and my Lakeland Terrier "Quinn".

AAM, that is great about you completing your Excellent titles. The most I have been able to accomplish are the open titles and not due to the dog, due to me. Those courses in the higher classes get really tough. My friend in Nashville that has two dogs from me just got the current breed ratings and her two are rated #1 and #3. The #1 dog has her MACH2. It just amazes me.
