Huh, the Lions beat the Eagles in Philly, it was not merely a defensive struggle on both sides of the ball as I'd suspected. Lions are (technically) unbeaten at 2-0-1, Eagles are 1-2-0. The other Eagles loss was to the Falcons, who almost pulled it off vs the Colts today. Packers and Vikings both won, Bears play Monday night.

Minnesota 42-30 over Detroit

Vikings

A

This was the kind of offense of performance that, if executed every week, would put Kirk Cousins in the MVP conversation. Yeah, I went there. The guy was consistent from start to finish, and if not for a Stefon Diggs drop, he would’ve had five touchdowns. Couple that with an excellently complementary running game headlined by Dalvin Cook, clutch depth in the wake of Adam Thielen’s injury and some timely defensive stands, and this was a Minnesota clinic. The only thing that would’ve made their day better was tighter pass coverage.

Lions

B+

Detroit certainly did not fail this game. Penalties were yet again a headache, and the lack of any consistent running game was again a problem, but they were never really out of this game, and while their defense obviously surrendered tons of long drives to Cousins and Co., they were also missing several starters due to injury. The Lions seem somewhat incapable of delivering that “it” play/performance to take a step toward serious contender, but you could do a whole lot worse.

Lions 16, Redskins 19.

Lions slip to 3-7-1, IOW, the best they can manage now is 8-7-1, if they ran the table.

They’re not going to run the table.

I’ve burned out on them and their decades-long losing record. Fire Matt Patricia, don’t fire him, who cares?

The fact that they still HIRE anyone with the first name “Matt” shows the whole organization suffers either from amnesia or PTSD.

OK, so, wth... offsetting penalties on the kickoff, rekick at 14:54, long return run, a couple of plays, Bears manage a 1st down, then boom, TD. Lions, using their 3rd string QB, first NFL pass is a touchdown. Chicago goes 3 and out. Ads. BTW, the Lions QB... if this kid goes down, their tight end is their 4th string backup, and he's actually thrown NFL passes already. My guess is, the fix is in, the Lions are going to cover, at least, and a lot of people are going to clean up. Matt Patricia will be given a contract extension, and probably identical twin hookers.

The Browns lost to the Bengals, and then fired Freddie Kitchens, their seventh full-time coach since 2009. Meanwhile, in Detroit coach Matt Patricia (9-20-1) and GM Bob Quinn (27-34-1) are apparently still safe. All three wins this season were led by injured QB Matt Stafford. Under previous head coach Jim Caldwell (2014-2017) the Lions were 36-28 and had two playoff appearances. In my lifetime the team has just one playoff victory. It's time the horses' asses owners sell the team. It's clear that the owners just suck and are responsible for 100% of the team's problems, but those examples of the silver spoon set won't do it of course.
