My kid doesn't have much time to play video games anymore due to his college schedule, but at our Thanksgiving get together yesterday, the teenagers who were into gaming seemed to be more impressed with some new game called Games of War, made for the Xbox 360 (my son played it and said it was "incredible" as far as graphics.) When I asked about the new systems (PS3 and Wii) none of them seemed super enthused, nor did any of them own one of the new systems (that could be because the availability was limited.)

It's called "gears of war" and is expected to be as lucrative a franchise for the x-box as Halo was. I know developers who work on both x-box and ps3 titles and there's really no contest between the two consoles. The game developers prefer the x-box.

Nintendo's graphics are several generations old, but their controllers -- how the gamer interacts with the game -- are definitely the wave of the future.

XBOX is the big winner this season.
WII is a big runner up

PS3 They sold out a limited number of sets to a few die hard fanboys but they'll have a really hard time moving enough units to catch up to the x-box or even the wii.

That would be "Gears of War" and yes it's pretty sweet. I am not into buying another Microsoft gaming system as my X-box crapped out on me after 6 months. I'm waiting to buy a Wii because of the name recognition (Zelda, Mario, Smash Brothers) and because of the intuitive controller styling (read, gets you into the game). I'm not getting a PS3 because for that same $600, I could get a Wii, another set of controllers, a memory card, and 5 or 6 games. =)

It's called "Gears of War". I'd love to play it online with my coworkers (most of my coworkers have it or are getting it), but from what I understand it is staggeringly violent. I'm not talking FPS violent like Halo or Call of Duty -- I'm talking cutting people in half with chainsaws and blood splattering on the "camera" violent.

I don't want to have that in the house, because even if I am the only one playing it, my kids would see it. That's probably for the best, as I don't really play video games now and I can't really spare the time. The XBox 360 is a gift for the kids, not a time suck for Dad.
