"The boy's mother ran outside to help him, but could not get the dogs off her son." I submit there were two fatalities in this dog attack. The mother who witnessed the death of her child in such a gruesome manner will never know life again.

Tragic! I am not familiar with the street but I'll bet there are hundreds of pit bulls on Houston's east side.

Kind of shocking. I figured the story was about a couple of killer Shih Tsus.

No, thats real bad and real sad.
Somebody else thought it was great to get a few mean dog puppies. They let them grow up and run free. Now the dogs have killed a poor kid.
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, little Yorkies, Taco dogs and poodles can be right snappy snots but I don't see too many of them dragging down kids and old ladies then mauling them to death.

Not much mystery why pitbulls are the dogs of choice for drug dealers.

The owners should be tried for manslaughter at least.
Pit Bull owners are idiots. It's like owning a rattlesnake.

Neighbors told authorities they thought the dogs were straysStray dogs, particularly large ones, are a tragedy waiting to happen.
If the neighbors were aware of these dogs before the attack,
they had the responsibility to get them removed from the area.
There was another horrible incident just a few days ago....
"the kindergartener was found shortly after the attack, his facial features and upper body had been destroyed by the pack of at least five dogs" link

Yes, I thought it was bound to be Poodles, or Shelties, or Spaniels which had attacked the boy. And yet it was Pitt Bulls.
To: PeteB570
It was not this breed of dog:

It was this one:

There should be no law against shooting a dog running loose. Maybe then, more Texans would keep their animals confined.

I saw the news report this afternoon. The attack happened in a trailer park. One of the neighbors said one (or both) of the dogs snarled at her a few days ago, and she reported it to the office.
The reporter said the dogs appeared "healty" and "well fed". You can bet the owner will not come forward.
