WELCOME RACE FANS

Welcome to the offseason withdrawal thread which is here for everyone to post racing news during the time between Nov 20, 2006 and Feb 10, 2007 when The Budweiser Shootout begins the new season.
As always this thread is dedicated to our military men and women serving our country. A big thank you to all of them. Hugs and prayers to those who have been wounded and are recuperating at Walter Reed, Bethesda and Brooke Army Med Center. And, to those combat field medics who care for them - THANK YOU!!

That hurts the ego!!! He had $60,000 invested plus his time. I emailed a FRiend about 4:30 to ask him how it went and he said Portugal got about $44,000. His last car brought about $350,000 to a museum.

Watched some of it today and all of the prices seemed lower.

The last '66 Shelby Cobra went for a smooth $5 million bucks. That's a new high for the auction.

I thought the average prices were off except for the premium cars. The Dusenberg sedan went for a lot less than I had guessed. I think it went for around $700,000.
I turn green with envy when I see the money spent there. Near $100,000,000 for the 40 hours. Is that 2.5 million an hour...

I know several from here that go every year. They said the prices lately have been grossly over rated. Maybe they are coming back into reality.

I just signed up for the Fantasy league. Looks like there's lots of room left.
Check with West Coast Gal for details!

Congrats to Robby Gordon for finishing 8th overall in the DAKAR rally. American Mark Miller, driving a VW finished 4th overall.
I don't know which is more of a jerk, but imho, Miller leads the category.

People seem to have lost interest.
CHANGES TO THE CHASE FORMAT ANNOUNCED TODAY....
Starting this season, the 400-point cutoff is eliminated and the top-12 drivers in the points after Race 26 will qualify for the Chase.
All 12 drivers will have their point totals re-set to 5,000; each will then receive a 10-point bonus for each race victory they had during the first 26 races.
The Chase drivers will be "seeded" to start the Chase based on the number of wins amassed during the regular season.
In line with the Chase adjustments, wins throughout the season will be more valuable.
Race winners throughout the 36-race season will now receive 185 points, a five-point increase.
Counting the five-point bonuses available for leading at least one lap and leading the most laps, a race winner now can earn a maximum of 195 points, creating a possible maximum of 25 points between first- and second-place finishers.
The 2006 season of Kasey Kahne provides a dramatic illustration of the adjusted Chase format's implications.
Kahne qualified for last year's Chase, but started it in 10th place -- despite having won a series-high five races. Under the new format, Kahne would begin the Chase in first place, with 5,050 points.

Easy to figure points wise......yes!
But, I was just looking at the races for the fantasy league picks and noticed the COT races are some my drivers best tracks.
Arrrrgh.
It's going to be tough for the teams/drivers this year with these two different cars to build and get through inspection plus whatever else Nascar decides to throw in the mix.

Are you talking about the "Mad Max" like ad for Bud?
I posted the link to see him making that a bit upthread.
Looks like he had fun.

I would give a few bonus points for not knocking the leaders off the track with 1 lap to go at Dega. :)

Stewart, Schrader and Kenny Wallace buy into Macon track: One of the oldest race tracks in Illinois gets new life with new owners. Macon Speedway revealed the new ownership team Sunday as part of the Racing Expo at the State Fairgrounds. Past track owner-operator Macon's Bob Sargent and NASCAR stars Tony Stewart, Kenny Wallace and Ken Schrader make up the team. Racing on the dirt track ended ahead of schedule last season because of financial hard times. The track was built back in 1946 in Macon.(wandtv.com)(1-22-2007)
