CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Teresa Earnhardt is willing to discuss a larger role at Dale Earnhardt Inc. with stepson Dale Earnhardt Jr. as part of the ongoing contract negotiations to keep him at his late father's company.
"We are moving full speed ahead with negotiations, moving ahead as we normally would," Teresa Earnhardt said Thursday night in a telephone interview from Los Angeles, where she was promoting the documentary "Dale."
Asked if she was committed to keeping Junior behind the wheel of the No. 8 Chevrolet, she didn't waver: "Absolutely."
Junior's contract expires at the end of this season, and his status with the company has been in question since Teresa Earnhardt seemingly questioned his commitment in a December article in The Wall Street Journal.
"Right now the ball's in his court to decide on whether he wants to be a NASCAR driver or whether he wants to be a public personality," she said in the Dec. 14 story.
The remark angered Junior, who said at preseason testing last week that the two had not spoken since the quote was published because "I figured if anything needed to be said, she'd call me up and say it."
Teresa Earnhardt indicated the two have since spoken but seemed fuzzy on when the conversation occurred.
"I don't know, it has just been a short while ago," she said. "We talk."
Junior said last week his relationship with his stepmother would factor into his decision to re-sign with DEI, and he also hoped to get an ownership stake in the company. But he said Teresa had skipped the most recent round of negotiations, sending representatives to the bargaining table to meet with Junior and his sister, Kelley Earnhardt Elledge.
Teresa Earnhardt said Thursday there's been nothing unusual about these extension talks.
"It's all been very typical," she said. "We're moving forward, discussing everything and trying to get this done."
Thanks for that snapshot of a good man and family..
RIP BP
The new Daytona commercials are called "FLINCH".
I think that applies to contract negotiations also. hahahahahaha
Teresa is smart she has to know DEI is nothing without Jr. He holds all the cards and the balls.
BTW
According to David Poole's blog...
The media were instructed they were only supposed to ask questions about the movie. They had to agree to certain things before they were allowed to be there. She was probably upset because those reporters didn't adhere to the rules.
I think there are far too many people trying to butt into DEI/Jr's business.
Are you bidding?
So that means you get a piece of the prize? :)
Vehicles like that are truly works of art. Don't know if I would ever try and put one on the road.LOL
I missed it completely, spent all day yesterday at the stock show with grandson and his pig. Don't know about him, but I was worn out! LOL
LOS ANGELES -- Kelly Clarkson will soon be showing her racing stripes in the biggest partnership NASCAR has ever made with a music artist, the sports franchise announced Thursday.
"Anyone who knows me knows I'm a race fan and love NASCAR," the former "American Idol" and Grammy-winning singer said in a NASCAR press release. "I look forward to hanging out with the fans, drivers and the entire NASCAR community."
Clarkson will be "integrated into all aspects of NASCAR," including television spots, charitable events and NASCAR's awards dinner in New York City in December, NASCAR said.
The deal kicks off with Clarkson headlining the Nextel "Tribute To America" concert airing live on Fox just before the Daytona 500 in Florida on Feb. 18.
During the appearance, Clarkson will film a 30-second NASCAR spot for TV featuring a new song from her upcoming third album.
She will also serve as a spokeswoman for the fourth annual NASCAR Day on May 18, 2007.
Other artists who have partnered with NASCAR include the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sheryl Crow, Jewel, Lenny Kravitz and LeAnn Rimes.
Clarkson's "enthusiasm for NASCAR as a fan of NASCAR will surely develop into an unparalleled relationship," said NASCAR's Sarah Nettinga in a statement.
The 24-year-old singer rose to pop-rock stardom after snagging the first "American Idol" crown in 2002.
Her debut album, "Thankful," earned double-platinum status, and the multiplatinum follow-up, "Breakaway," garnered two Grammy awards in 2006.

Cool... and thank God we won't be expecting wardrobe malfunctions.
First was greatest races (seen before), now on - Greatest Rivalries.....Dale Jr says, "I've never owned a Ford, I've never been in a Ford, I'll never drive a Ford..."
Damn!
Other than that, Jr., how do you feel about Fords?
LOL
Yep, not from Kelly. She may not be the most drop-dead gorgeous star out there, but she's smart, makes great music and, so far anyway, has remained sweet, unaffected and classy. And she visited our troops in Iraq on her own, without waiting for a sponsored trip. Made a special trip there when she was touring in Europe last year.
