WELCOME RACE FANS

Welcome to the offseason withdrawal thread which is here for everyone to post racing news during the time between Nov 20, 2006 and Feb 10, 2007 when The Budweiser Shootout begins the new season.

As always this thread is dedicated to our military men and women serving our country. A big thank you to all of them. Hugs and prayers to those who have been wounded and are recuperating at Walter Reed, Bethesda and Brooke Army Med Center. And, to those combat field medics who care for them - THANK YOU!!

NASCAR driver is rebuked for Bush sticker

It’s no secret that NASCAR drivers skew Republican, which is fine with the Federal Election Commission, just so long as they don’t display their preferences where anyone can see them.

In a decision announced Tuesday, the FEC sent an “admonishment letter” to Kirk Shelmerdine Racing. Kirk Shelmerdine, a former pit boss for the late Dale Earnhardt, has been an unsuccessful, underfunded and undersponsored driver. He has never finished higher than 26th.

So back in 2004, in a move perhaps designed to draw some attention to his car, he placed a “Bush-Cheney ’04” decal on his rear quarter panel, which was otherwise unencumbered by advertising. Democratic activist Sydnor Thompson complained to the FEC, and the agency found that Shelmerdine “may have made an unreported independent expenditure or a prohibited corporate expenditure.”

Former commissioner Bradley Smith dissented in one of the case’s early votes and blogged about the result this week. He has written that in reference to the FEC’s $250 expenditure limit, “evidence is strong that the market value of Shelmerdine’s rear quarter panel was approximately $0, give or take $249.”

Flag is a nice town, but you might be happier down the hill in Cottonwood or Sedona (beautiful area, Sedona) or maybe the williams area (a little busy these days cuz its the entry point to the south rim of the grand canyon, but still very nice, ponderosa pine country but lower elevation so not quite as much snow as Flag...

but Flag is a nice area...

The wife and I are looking at the Page area for our retirement, something overlooking lake Powell

Thanks Old Bean!

I saw a weather report of the area, snow and stuff, but the summers look nice too...7,000ft elevation and what all...

Only a few more years to go...if I'm lucky.

summers are nice there, when its about a buck ten in Phoenix, Flags unually in the upper 80's or nineties.

not that in doesn't get hot but it gets comfortable quickly at night

you might have one problem though, we breath air out here not much water in the air, your sinus' will know you've moved... :')

Are any of you doing anything special this weekend? At 73 I have finally found a way to get through our dismal weather. I go to bed with a smile on my face knowing that todays rain and wind is tomorrows blizzards and tornados to the east.

HAPPY NEW YEAR Y'ALL...

Take a guess where I'm gonna be on the 29th or 30th of Jan '07....

Go ahead, make a WAG. You'll never guess, not in a million years!

Hint: very loud engine noises. The smell of high octane fuel (if the EPA hasn't mandated a conversion to bio-diesel yet), and...speed. Lot's of that!

Jayski may have the count down to Daytona (just looked, gone - ??), but I got my own count down.

Talk about a junkie needing a fix!

New toy to play with, too. Santa decided I needed a new digital camera. Can record 30 minute video's, with audio.

Can't believe the better half is giving me grief about buying 14 or so 1GB flash cards so I can record the whole day!

lol

LOL...my wife's sister and family live in the Denver area and during that storm I was emailing them hourly updates of our temps. Our high that day was 62 and the low was 54

It was snowing so hard on her home from work she turned into a neighbors driveway 3 lanes up the street from her drive. She got stuck and they had to push her free. She drives a newer VW Beetle...

He was up there for the recent display of Mother Nature's power.

Here today (consultant role) and I heard on the TV that Denver was expected to get another 12" by tomorrow morning. He is driving back there tomorrow morning.

Couln't wait to break the news to him......told me to get out of his office!!!!!

Have fun, Denver Boy!
