Groovy.
The 2007 Nascar season could be the transition year. Factors like, too many secret rules, COT, single race venues, cookie cutter tracks, ESPN and the pressure to win could make this season the "Jump the Shark" year...
I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and Happy and healthy New Year. Daytona is not that far off now.
Please say a prayer for the troops deployed and those here at home in the hospital. They suffer so we are free to have these special days to celebrate Christmas safely with our friends and families!!
Speaking of food... CARLO IS BACK
Ho! Ho! Ho! Merry Christmas to all!!!
Yep. Very colorful display of three ghosted images, and it's bowed - down from the top, up from the bottom! Against my better judgement, I knew the hammer was not going to fix this one.
Diagnostics say it's something to do with the vertical deflection. Right. Spent a few hours on the Internet chasing down a service manual, even got the suspect chip indentified!
Now I'm really sure (always hope!) the hammer will not work. The boy said, "looks like it needs a few rounds of wedge cranked in to it." Where's the hole?
Crap...what next? Can't do anything today, or tomorrow. Repair prices I saw were not pretty.
I told the kids, "You can still watch it, you just get the bonus of seeing 3 of everything!" I thought it was funny, they didn't.
From the CupScene - Amy Hair, on Ricky Rudd...I'd forgotten about some of this......
"One of his most infamous moments was back in the Holly Farms 400 at North Wilkesboro Speedway. In the first turn of the last lap of the race, Rudd attempted to pass the late Dale Earnhardt. Needless to say it didnt go as planned and Rudd took Earnhardt with him when he wrecked. They both managed to squeeze over the finish line in 9th and 10th place, but the fireworks after the race were the real attraction. Earnhardt was angry to the point that he thought Rudd should be suspended through the end of the season. Crew members from both teams were fighting it was a grand day at the old track.
The Iron Man of NASCAR, Ricky had 788 consecutive starts (as of the end of the 2005 season). He was the Rookie of the Year in 1977, and beginning in 1981, went 16 consecutive seasons in NASCAR with at least one win. And 1992 saw Ricky bring home the IROC series championship trophy.
In 1984, during the Busch Clash, as he was sliding toward the wall, Rudd remembers thinking "Don't get knocked out. This thing could catch on fire."
He squeezed the steering wheel and braced for impact. "All of a sudden it got real quiet," he said. The car was airborne. "I was glad it got airborne because it allowed me to hop over that wall, but then it came down the first time," Rudd said. "I remember hitting the first time and hearing the air go out of me. Like those game films in the NFL when a guy gets hit and all the air rushes out of his body. That 'ugh.' I heard that."
He doesnt remember the rest of it, but his seat broke sometime during that crash, allowing his body to get thrown back and forth inside the car, hitting the bars and dashboard, resulting in torn rib cartilage. The bruising and soreness alone would have been enough to keep any man down for a few days, but Rudd was determined to get back in the car for the Daytona 500. Two days later he was back at the track, but going into the turns presented a new problem. His badly bruised and swollen eyes kept him from seeing clearly. To compensate, he duct taped the lids back so he could see. It must have worked, because he took seventh place home that day.
He tore ligaments in his left knee in a crash in 1988 but kept racing. He suffered second-degree burns on his back during the 1998 fall Martinsville race but won and was back in the car three days later."
I liked the "All of a sudden it got real quiet..." part.
Another "old guy" to root for! lol
Merry Christmas to ya!
