Or it will be like the Moors, who did manage to build a pretty amazing civilization in Spain between 800 and 1400 AD. You have to remember the Moors built in places like Alhambra, Grenada, etc. beautiful cities with modern running water systems and modern agricultural irrigation systems, not to mention numerous scholarly libraries.

I hadn't thought of Spain. I was thinking more of the Byzantine Greek lands in modern day Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, etc. The high point islamic culture may have been based in a large part on the Greek culture the arabian nomads conquered. Much like various races conquered China, installed themselves as emperors, and eventually became Chinese.
