You may very well be right. I just think that Nifong is about to experience intense pressure to drop this from local powers that normally would not be involved in a criminal case. I'm basing this om my experience with small town southern politics and not on any specific facts.

What people forget is that Durham has been like this for YEARS; granted, he is the worst of the lot, but it's a town/gown situation.

The "tell" will come after the election; if he dismisses the case, which I don't think he will, he will be removed from office by the town people because he will be admitting he's been blowing smoke up their butts since March.

I think he's too wrapped up in it to dismiss the case, even if she says she won't testify; he'll simply say she's afraid of the big bad white boys and subpoena her, trying to make it look like she's a reluctant witness, insinuating she's only testifying to get the truth out there.

He's way too invested in this to let go now. And he's in a lose/lose situation: he will either be removed from office, if he wins, or they will wipe the floor with him in court. He's going for the gold, IMO, because he has mistaken the lust for payback in the black community for actual support for himself.
