Were she at Duke, I'm sure Shalala would have been every bit as ardent in defending the Duke 3 as she was in defending the street fighting thugs in Florida. /sarcasm

This just proves that liberals can be taught. Broadhead has a PR disaster on his hands brought about by his inept handling of this situation. Shalala is trying to avoid sharing his fate.

To make the Duke situation equivalent to Miami it would have to involve Duke Basketball. Football pays for the athletic department at Miami, just as basketball pays for the athletic department at Duke. [Both of course are in the ACC so there football at Duke and basketball at Miami do contribute to bringing in money too.]

Brodhead thought he could get away with throwing lacrosse under the bus, I suspect that at Miami Shalala would have done the same thing. And of course football at Miami is their connection to the local black community. So Shalala is bowing to the local black community defending thuggery on the football field, while in this case Brodhead bowed to the local black community throwing these players under the bus. So actually Brodhead and Shalala behaved the same in these two cases, they are bowing to the local black community.
