I just posted on my blog that the reviewers at Rotten Tomatoes loved it because it showed "Effective as epic reconstruction of Iwo Jima's brutal combat and as timely deconstruction of the flag raising iconic image and the myth of war heroes as fabricated and sold by the power elite."

The good news is that the kids at Ain'titcool news hated it because it was too confusing...so it probably will not be a hit, but I suspect Hollywood will give it oodles of awards.

Just watched it on dvd. It's a movie about a war bond drive with a few action scenes thrown in. And the action scenes are mostly flashbacks featuring the flag raisers especially Ira Hayes. The movie is mostly about the Marines involved who raised the flag on their post-Iwo bond drive tour and their emotional reactions. Not what I expected. I'm sure a lot of Hollyweird lib types will love this film. I didn't. I wanted to see a movie about how the Marines took Iwo Jima. It was almost entirely something else.
