What a honey. She seems to have made a good recovery. Does she swim or wade? Mine loves to fetch in the water. She's like a little engine. But unlike labs she will never jump in.

He's a boy, just missing the little dangly bits.
He has made a remarkable recovery.
Just a few areas where the hair won't grow, his "bare" spots. ;~)
He loves to swim and is seemingly tireless.
He will take a running jump off the end of a dock in pursuit of a stick.
He doesn't need a thrown stick to motivate him tho',
he goes into the water for the sheer enjoyment of swimming...

While he's swimming and I call out for him to do a "Big Splash"
he'll raise his paws out of the water and bring them down hard repeatedly
churning up the water and having fun. He really makes me laugh at times.

He's is also an avid albeit unsuccessful beaver hunter.
He's the little white dot way out on the left.
Old beaver lets him get close and then gives a big whack of his tail and dives.
Poor Sammy just keeps chugging forward looking to his left and right for the beaver.
While beaver, in the foreground here, surfaces behind him
no doubt having a good laugh at the silly dog...

I had the first session of my firearms safety course this evening.
The instructor had his two yellow labs with him.
He told how the one is a good bird dog
While the other just doesn't seem to get it at all.
I had been considering that Sam might have some potential as a bird hunting dog.
I know he loves to swim and retrieve,
and on one occassion demonstrated a very gentle mouth on a bird.
I got some info from the instructor about a trainer who can try him out and test his potential.
