They didn't bother doing the task, since they knew they got the last clue.

I think they arrived at the challenge site after all the other teams had already checked in. They just drove to Phil to hear the bad news.

By the time they had arrived at the detour, all other teams had already checked in to the pit stop. In this instance, their detour instructions simply said to proceed to the pit stop.

Had this been a non-elimination leg, they would have still had to do the detour. Since it was an elimination leg, there was no reason for them to do the detour (we were already sick of Peter and sure didn't need to hear him badger Sara about carrying a 100 lb bag of feed).

I've noticed this before in other seasons. When a team is so far behind that they arrive at the route marker when all other teams have already checked in, they've simply been instructed to go to the pit stop.
