I saw him again about a year later, where "Vanilla Fudge" opened for him, and I have to say, they blew him off the stage. He was drugged out, couldn't tune his guitar, and was incredibly sloppy, both in playing and singing. "Fudge," on the other hand, were at the absolute top of their game.
