The meat is not marketed here in this country because most Americans find it absurd to eat them. If you wouldn't, you can consider yourself in the minority.
The only horse slaughter in this country for human consumption is done at three specific slaughterhouses who export the meat to France and other countries. To many it seems as bizarre as slaughtering dogs and shipping them to Korea. If you wouldn't find that objectionable either, you'd again find yourself in an even smaller minority.
We do have the right, you know, to mold a society with the values we like. Some values which are purely emotional are still worth holding.
This is one I'm not going to change my mind on, so if you aren't gonna budge either, we're at an impasse :~) I've got a horse out in my paddock that I'll give as much credit as he'll take.
I completely understand why you don't want to eat horse meat...but is that really enough to make it illegal to butcher horses and ship the meat out? It really isn't the government's job to make laws based on how some people feel about other people's eating habits
Our culture has room for plenty of diversity in it. Some folks want to feed carrots to horses. Other folks want to eat the carrots themselves. Others want to roast horsemeat with carrots.
Freedom demands the right to do such things. Absent horseslaughter in this country, we are little more than a fascist dictatorship that derives more pleasure from slaughtering its young than in any other activity.
To me, it makes no sense to slaughter millions of dogs in dog pounds and then just throw their bodies away. Why not sell the dead dogs to people who want dog meat, and then use the profits to build bigger shelters that can keep the dogs alive for longer? It's better for the dogs and it's better for the people who like to eat dogs.
