Here's another reason I don't think that Ramsey's tried to make an accident look like a murder:

If it's a murder, someone has to go to jail! If it's an accident, no one has to go to jail. So, if JonBenet was slammed against something, and accidentally died, why not say she fell. Why not insist it was an accident. If you are successful, then the case is closed. In a murder, it stays open until somebody goes to jail!

If it's a gruesome murder, no one thinks it's the upscale parents who were responsible - they focus on a monster, after the parents are cleared. Parents weren't, in this case.
