For your bookmarking assistance, this is a reference list of links to the Aug 2006 or newer Free Republic threads on the topic of the JonBenet Ramsey murder case and the possible arrest of John Mark Karr as a suspect in her murder.
Yeah -- she has the voice of fingernails scratching a chalk board.
You're right. She should have. I heard one former DA say, though, that the investigation of Karr had been leaked to the press and that the DA was forced to act before she was ready. He accused the professor, Tracey, of doing it. In time, we'll know.
I believe she was forced to act before she was ready, but she should have something we don't know about.
When did John Karr talk to Wendy Hutchins?
Wasn't this the lady that Lin Wood threatened to sue last night if he she kept running her mouth about the Ramseys?
She sold some of the depositions she had received to the National Enquirer. She has also written a play about the JonBenet murder. While I sometimes get the feeling she is a bit out there, her forum does have some good information concerning the history of this case.
Wendy Hutchens is the one who turned Karr in for suspected child porn, which resulted in the charges for which he went to jail in 2001.
She lived in Petaluma then and was a case follower of the Polly Klaas case. Karr hooked up with her that way and practiced his obsessing about Polly until he started obsessing on JonBenet.
It got spooky, so Wendy went to LE and they gave her phone recording equipment. She taped over 20 hours of convos with him. Others have been able to hear some of the audio online, but I finally got to hear some of it this morning on GMA. Creeeeeppppy.
He didn't admit or confess to killing JBR, but kept giving Wendy scenarios - in graphic detail - *as if* he were the killer. She wasn't totally familiar with all the ins and out of the Ramsey case and so she thought the things he knew were things that only the perp would know.
I guess the Sonoma Co. authorities didn't quite agree, because the Boulder PD called them about JBR and they couldn't find any connection - but they did find the porn and arrested him for that. She said she called the FBI first, but they haven't been mentioned again in the stories about her, so I guess they bowed out.
And no, the Wendy that got Lin Wood to running his mouth was Wendy Murphy, a former prosecutor who is a type of victim advocate for women and children. She was on the panel on Paula Zahn's show on CNN last night (see the transcript link I put up earlier).
She disputed some things others were putting on Karr, saying John Ramsey could've done them. Her facts were accurate, but delivery was not well-received. You know how we feel about Ann Coulter's bold statements sometimes? Same type of thing. No further comment from me.
She used jameson
Coverage is starting to thin a little. Extradition hearing is this morning 8:30AM PDT (10:30 CDT, 11:30 EDT) in Los Angeles. There should be some comments about that forthcoming.
You're a treasure! Awesome job compiling the articles and very much appreciated.
We might learn a little something in about 2 hours from now.
Karr is now in court per Foxnews!
I heard that too but was in another room. Did media get a glimpse of him? Likely not.
There have been three, maybe four, defense attorneys speaking on his behalf since yesterday afternoon.
One was Patricia Van Zandt (Patricia? I hope that's right - too many Patsys here) - I'll check. I thought she was court-assigned, but evidently not. Someone left word at her office, so she is in private practice. Not sure of her relationship, but I think it's in a Denver Post article - will check.
Another was Marie Case, who had been his defense attorney in the porn case in Sonoma County. They were on together on GMA this morning and choosing ... every ... word ... they ... said ... very ... carefully ... and ... very ... slowly.
They said the Thai presser was a travesty of justice and so degrading, yada yada. He didn't confess or admit anything. Blah blah. Same ole same ole.
I'm saying all this because word is he has indicated his desire to represent himself on the charges in Boulder, once he gets to Boulder.
Oh, now I remember something else they said, lol. When asked by Diane Sawyer if he is a nutcase fruit loop and/or kookoo for Cocoa Puffs, they both crowed in unison that he is far from it - he is quite sane and not as he has been portrayed. He's "frightened" and disoriented from this long travel period - on and on.
And he didn't "choose" to have the luxury accommodations he received on the Thai flight, that decision was made for him. He has no control over anything that LE is doing to him. Aaggh.
Need to check my notes to see about the other lawyer and the name of the one I may have flubbed.
Patience Van Zandt
First name is Patience, not Patricia - sorry. Why is he in court so early?
The lawyer's name is Patience Van Zandt. She was the PD who was assigned to his misdemeanor porn charges in 2001. She is now in private practice. One of the other lawyers is Jane Harmon who I believe is in practice with Van Zandt.
Interesting.... he might want to represent himself in Boulder?
Right now, I am just hoping he waves extradition to Boulder. Furthermore, I hope Boulder is prepared to charge him with SOLID evidence.
Jamie Harmon - not Jane Harmon.
Hoo Boy! Read this --- his mother tried to kill him when he was a baby. I haven't read the whole thing yet:

Karr's Mother Tried to Kill Him, Family Friend Says
Karr Family Friend Says Mother Tried to Kill Him When He Was a Baby
By CHRIS FRANCESCANI, ABC Law and Justice Unit
ATLANTA, Aug. 21, 2006 - The mother of the suspect in JonBenet Ramsey's murder tried to kill him when he was only a baby, a family friend told ABC News.
John Karr's mother, Patricia Elaine Adcock "made a big round donut [of kindling] and put him in the middle of it," said George McCrary, 76, who said he has known Karr's father, Wexford Karr, for 40 years.
[snip]
Courttv interviewed Harmon and Van Zandt, the two lawyers who had met with Karr for approx. 7 hours yesterday. They said he is anxious to get back to Boulder. He wanted to represent himself but since this would be a capital murder case if charged, he wouldn't be allowed to do that. Van Zandt said someone from the public defender's office would be respresenting him in the hearing today.
Thanks
His mother died in a mental institution?
