The fact is the federal government has forced the states to raise the drinking age to 21. The military didn't do that and can't do anything about it.
It's a stupid law. A guy (or gal) ought to be able to have a drink (or two, or . . . .) before going to war, IMHO.
Yikes sorry about that
I leave many in there myself...aft lizard?? Airedale or cook?
Yep that's the one.. Makes me wanna change my name to Pogo the Possum :>}
ignorant
the 21 drinking age did not change the base club drinking age to 21. beer and wine have been available to the underage service members. they were generally not harassed for drinking on military beaches, at military events, etc.

Happy B/Day Mike. By the way you joined FR on my b/day.
You think it is somehow weak and 'candy ass' to actually use good capitalization and complete sentences?
Hey! It's my birthday too! (class of 73)
I don't like your writing style, however, THANK YOU for your service to our country.
LOL
So are you advocating no alcohol for any service member, because they might not be "prepared"? Personal opinion from a marine vet, and a former heavy drinker. Someone is old enough to lay their life on the line for people that make dumb-a$$ rules and complain about other peoples behavior, even when they are not doing anything wrong, deserve to have a drink, or smoke, whenever it is allowable. In fact, I have an open bar policy to any service member, regardless of age in my house.
IMHO, one of the worst thing that ever happened was when the Clintoon DoD went over board on the alcohol reeducation of the military. It got so bad that I saw units that would not even allow alcohol at company functions, like picnics and feild days. Treating grown men, and women, who could die any day in the defense of their country as though are irresponsible adolescents is not a way engender good esprit de corps.
Putting a three drink limit on the e-club (as I take it has happened on at least one installation) is simply assinine. Those who normally drink on base and stumble happily back to their barracks/squad bay/berthing area, will now go off base to partake. There is a better chance that they will drink and drive, or be with someone who is drinking and driving.
Why is this in BREAKING NEWS?
NAVY TIMES and ARMY TIMES are both owned by Gannett publishing, a leftwing publishing outfit.
Where you drinking when you wrote this?
#52, my laugh of the day.
