Farmers and ranchers know by experience that even the nicest of dogs become killers when in a pack, ask those who have had to get rid of their own dogs. My dogs stay in my yard even if the gate is open (that only happens by accident when the grankids are here).

I've seen the cutest little chihuahua cross viciously kill 100 chickens just because she was a dog. Dogs are dogs, they are our best friends but they still have pack instincts and they do what nature calls them to do.

Besides, it isn't like we live in a city neighborhood, we wouldn't be able to shoot a gun there nor would we have any kind of livestock.

Where I live is neither all that rural nor is it city. It's small farms and homes. Clearly, you're within your rights, that's why I said ~please~.

I'm an obsessive runner, and I used to run thru the neighborhoods near my house until I found I liked the local medical school track better. A couple of the local yahoos would let their about 5# rat dog loose, and the little POS would go straight for my ankles. I did everything, including doggie treat bribery. It took a large stick across the nose a couple of times, then the little jerk ran the *other* way when he saw me coming.
