DURHAM - Investigator Michelle Soucie of the Durham Police Department was working the phones the afternoon of April 17, trying to set up DNA tests on evidence in the Duke lacrosse case. A private laboratory in Burlington gave a price, and Soucie immediately contacted District Attorney Mike Nifong.

In examining the files Nifong has produced in the case, The News & Observer found that the accuser gave at least five different versions of the alleged assault to different police and medical interviewers and made shaky identifications of suspects. To get warrants, police made statements that weren't supported by information in their files.

Much of the district attorney's evidence is contained in more than 1,800 pages of documents he has made available to the defense under a recent state law requiring prosecutors to open their files before trial. Those documents are only part of the evidence that could be introduced in a criminal trial. They do not include information still being gathered or testimony that might occur under oath.
But they offer the most complete picture thus far of evidence in the case that has put Durham and Duke in the national spotlight. The documents -- police notes, court orders, DNA tests, interviews and handwritten statements -- show what the prosecution has learned and how it conducted itself in State of North Carolina vs. Collin Finnerty, Reade W. Seligmann and David Forker Evans, who could face decades in prison if convicted.

I feel the same.
Okay. I read that description of the house on Talk Left. I was hoping LaShawn had the floor plan. Now that would be investigating reporter -- if some enterprising reporter got a copy of the floor plan from 610 Buchanan.
The bathroom in which the IR (Immaculate Rape) took place is rather snug, wouldn't you say?
Yep! Either one of those bathrooms!
Does anyone remember that the Durham police were taking pictures of and examining a window early in the investigation? Wonder what room that window was in and why it was of interest...
Yes, if you find those Morbidly obese, short lacrosse players
(ranked number 3 or so in the Nation) - you'll find the real rapists.
The woman's mental conditon is the Real issue - IMO.
And then there's the seemingly corrupt prosecution and abuse of power. A mentally ill stripper / hooker only gets so far without the authorities validating her story and making incriminating statements about the players.
The Duke forum is still locked, but there is a Duke thread in the Current Crimes forum. One of the posters got CW's permission to open it, but CW cautioned them all to be good. Gimme a break!
I really think it would be best in CTV's Duke Forum went by the wayside or just became a hangout for the LAX Haters.
CW allows the Pro-AV stuff to constantly interrupt, disrupt and bait.
Interest would fall off precipitiously in CTV if it was all Savanna and Two Braid cells, etc. Plus, so many posters making good reasoned points have been banned.
Nice catch on the suggestion of rape to Crystal. That and the descriptions of the "rapists" as chubby were the only things new in the article -- new in that I don't remember reading about them until today.
And once again, you did a great job at Blinco's -- or whatever it's called. Any chance you could get a floor plan of 610 Buchanan?
And never fear, my friend, even though you and I disagree on this point, this case will never go to trial.
Gah! Now I'm sorry I looked over on that thread. It's like watching a car wreck happen. You can't turn away...
I think it's worth a shot. A Freeper lives in that neighborhood of 610 N. Buchanan. If he/she doesn't reveal
it openly - I'm not going to.
But, with help, it may be attainable.
BTW, the N&O admitted they did no investigation. They admitted a state law required that the DA make discovery available to the public before the trial.
They got the discovery. There are so many holes in this case they found a couple of new ones, Mangum descriptions that do not match the indicted and that something having happened to her being suggested to before she said anything. They emphasized these previously unreported weaknesses.
Now it is good that ran this story. It is good they emphasized weakness we did not previously know about. They should have been doing a story a day on weaknesses in this case. They should not have pounded the drums to encourage this railroading previously. But better late then never and we did learn important new things about this case in their this article.

Aren't they desperate! The last I looked they were really trying to make Matt Nifong's secret witness who will testify what really happened that night. Dream on!
I've been going to TalkLeft -- although I feel funny going over there -- OTOH there are lots of conservatives going there now that the CTV board is closed. Either you or maggief told me about TalkLeft.
Sitting down? Can you handle it?
Okay, here goes:
She's a prostitute.
Just having fun with you :-)
I have a feeling that whatever that rumor is, we were on it a long time ago.
check out the thread "AV's computer."
new rumor there...
Good luck! What a coup that would be. A nice .pdf with measurements of the bathrooms.
Maybe Mike Nifong (the DA) can give us another demonstration of how three chubby lacrosse players raped Crystal --orally, vaginally, and anally -- in the tiny bathroom.
Aaarrrggg!
