DURHAM, N.C. -- Officials say they are investigating an alleged assault involving Durham police officers outside a Raleigh bar.

Garry Frank is the President of the NC Conference of District Attorneys.
If he gets 100 letters about Nifong, he may end up feeling the pressure and having to make a public response, even if only to say he will not respond.
If people from all over the country send him letters about how bad the NC justice system is looking, he'll get the message.
But he is NOT going to do anything unless and until he feels he HAS to.
So turn up the heat (either address will do; and typing a short snail mail message will only take 1 minute):

I was always taught that proved was correct but then had read proven was accepted. I think the dictionary people just give up sometimes when an unaccepted word overwhelms the accepted one. The same happens with pronounciation. The other day I mentioned that the word flaccid is pronounced flak-sid. It always had been one of the most frequently mispronounced words. Now it appears that the pronounciation flas-sid is becoming acceptable. Things change. Everything except the corruption in Durham.
Don't know about anyone else but I'm ready for the perp walk.
Another heads up :
The results for the Fresno rape case DNA are not yet back.
Keep an eye out for them--if the suspects there are cleared because of their DNA, I want that trumpeted throughout NC, loud and clear--letters to the N & O, the Herald-Sun, Court TV, and every other place where it can be heard.
Meanwhile, in another case--

July 19, 2006 - A DNA sample has cleared a Fresno man, currently jailed on kidnapping charges, of a series of murders committed in Southern California, authorities said.
Inglewood Police Sgt. Steve Overly said Tuesday that a saliva sample taken from Roger Hausmann, 65, did not match evidence gathered in the homicides, which date back to the 1980s.
Hausmann became a suspect in the case last August after he told Fresno investigators that he killed prostitutes in the Los Angeles area. His name was revealed in a LA Weekly article last month.
I forget which one, but one of the ADA's used to work for Wake County.
Has it been announced what time Cheek is letting us know his decision?
Cheek just held his press conference and announced he will not run. Too bad.
Obviously the CourtHouse Crowd made him an offer he couldn't refuse...
Just wow!
Did Cheek give a reason?
What? Did he give a reason?
Then why bother using all of your campaign workers to collect those signatures? This doesn't pass the smell test.
That stinks. I was hoping this would put some real pressure on Nifong. Or at least the possiblilty there would be someone who would handle this case properly.
Ruth again...
Now I've heard everything

There is a chance that Cheek not running may be GREAT news.
It may mean that he and Nifong have worked out an agreement for Nifong to drop the case, in exchange for no opposition in November (in which case Nifong is a shoe-in).
And I HOPE that is the case; then this would be over with.
Let the people of Durham have Nifong; they deserve him.
(But I have been disappointed so often in this Durham saga that I am not getting my hopes up. . .)
I wouldn't bet on it. I suspect the CourtHouse Crowd has had every investigator on the payroll busy digging dirt on Cheek. That's how they play ball, and the sooner everyone realizes that, the better off our side will be...
mark
That would be great. These boys have lives they need to get on with. People went to a lot of trouble to get him on the ballot. It's about the only thing that would make sense. But then again when has anything in this case made sense? Hope you're right.
Could be a deal has been reached. Of course Nifong is a liar so he could back out, but Cheek would have a hard time explaining getting back in.
Still Cheek's name will still be on the ballot. If I am a voter there, I know who I am voting for.
I don't think I'll ever go to or drive through Durham again. Disgusting. The lot of 'em.
This angers me. Further proof that corruption runs rampant in Durham. This two-bit shark-bait attorney lied to voters to get on the ballot, committing fraud, claiming he would run against Nigong. Then he got bought off. What a jerk!
Something may have happened--either he was threatened with having some dirt dug up; or maybe Nifong fears he really might lose in November, he can't have the trial before then, and so he will save himself by guaranteeing his election victory, in exchange for dropping a case which is becoming more and more embarrassing to him each day.
I HOPE it is the latter.
(But I've hoped so often in this case I'm getting worn out...)
