MONROE, CONNECTICUT (AP) -- A Monroe man is accused of assaulting his wife with a carrot.

Pamela Vecsey underwent six hours of surgery after being hit in the eye with the vegetable Saturday night, but doctors were not able to restore her vision.

There is an interesting article in People about a blind boy who does not use a cane or a guide dog to tell him where he is going. Instead, he uses a series of tongue clicks and can even identify the types of materials (wood, metal, plastic) by how the sound from the clicks. It is called "echolocation".

I think it is amazing the things we learn after we become parents of children who don't have EVERYTHING we take for granted. Had I read the article about the blind boy 14 years ago, I would not have given it a second thought. You know?
