Actually, I understand that the studios tried hard to sell Lucille Ball as a femme fatale (sp? I can't spell French words very well) before finding out how funny she was.

I've seen her in an early dramatic role. She wasn't bad, but comedy is definitely her strong suit.

I think a lot of actress/comediennes were multitalented. But Rita Rudner had a point. She was a dancer, but she said that one day she noticed that George Burns was still working while it had been 20 years since Gene Kelly had a role. That's when she decided to try comedy!
