Good call on Rainbow. Dio and Richie Blackmore in the same band.

The best concert I ever went to was Rainbow and Scorpions 1982 at the Garden. I will never forget Joe Lynn Turner. Years later JLT was a headline at Lamour's in Brooklyn and just a small club crowd. I was in my glory! I also remember my friend was so wasted after the Garden concert we left him at his doorstep and rang the bell and ran like hell!

I saw Dio and Anthrax together a few years back. The guy could still wail. It was a smaller venue and there were about 1500 people packed into it.

Well you can watch a modern concert of Arthur Lee with Baby Lemonade and see if he's still "got" it.
There are a lot of casualties of the 1960s. Some are still performing well despite personal setbacks.

There's a whole bunch of good stuff missing. To mention just a few:
Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick and Aqualung
Lynard Skynard - Don't remember the album name but it included Sweet Home Alabama
Atlanta Rhythm Section (Incredible album...check it out!)

I'm in the same boat on the Dead, but I really liked Dead Set, esp. Fire on the Mountain, but the whole thing really flowed. I didn't have to jump from track to track (LP Vinyl !!).

Chronicles is great, but compilations weren't allowed or I would for sure have listed it. (The Essential Bob Dylan is also, well, essential.)

I spent my high-school years in a puny oiltown in northern Canada, where it was all hashish and Judas Priest (and moose and Great Plains grizzly bears).
I found a college radio station that I could pick up from Edmonton, and, thereby, survived (via U2 and The Cure, among others... which, yikes! makes me realize I should've mentioned Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me and Disintegration [and, of course, Staring At The Sea]).
