If Patsy found the note, was she wearing gloves in her own house? Didn't she pick it up to read it?
I wouldn't pick up a suspicious paper (or anything else) sans gloves. One should want to preserve as much as possible for forensics. (Of course, Boulder didn't seem to have forensics, but that's flour from another sack.)
