He's a hoot. He's first generation off the boat from Italy. When they came to the country, his mom didn't speak a word of English. He has amazing stories about the Depression and just amazing life stories in general. I want to start getting them down on paper, and that won't be hard because he sure loves to tell them.
You are doing a wonderful thing. I know it requires a lot of changes with families sometimes but I believe Seniors are a blessing from God and should be enjoyed . I wish I had asked my grandmother more questions, than I did. As you probably can tell, I have a list of stuff I want to do but take my good ole time getting there. I have an old quilt of hers that I have been working on for several years. I'm writing a book to go with stories on the quilt for future generations. The writing is easy. The quilt is a project.
Really, my mothers mom and all her family were first generation off the boat from Italy:). Her grandfather was still alive and I remember him....he never learned English, maybe a little, but not enough that my brother and I could talk to him.

I interviewed my Grandma over several days once, typing right into the computer because it was easier for me and she kindof marveled at that... But I got her to tell all the stories we wanted to save, about her growing up, her meeting my grandpa, and lots of stories about living when and where she did. It made a nice story I put together with other family history bits we had and gave to everyone for Christmas one year, in a three ring binder so they could add more of their own to it.
You might want to record them too. That way you'll always have him to listen to and pass along those memories first hand to your children.
