The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

The 2nd puppy tested negative. Do they still put them down to test?

He shouldn't scare you like that!

I'm up, slept for a bit. No wind, it's absolutely quiet. So far. Just went to check on the horses and Cyn is lying down.

Hopefully it will stay this good :~) I'm going back to bed till something changes :~)

I think they have to. They need the brain.

I didn't know if that was still how they tested. Good news for the 2nd family though.

Good Morning.

Duchess, your dogs are so cute! That many would drive me nuts though. Two in the house, seem like 10 at times.

Hair, that sure was weird about all Cyn's antics at the barn over the weekend. I sure was glad that she didn't hurt herself. It's scary when they get like that and there's nothing you can do to calm them down.

That was a good test to cut the power and run an extension cord to see if that made a difference. Since everything has been quiet since then, it sounds like the barn power was the problem. Now you can take your time and fix it right when you have the time and decent weather.

Extension cords have been a lifesaver for me. The power shorted out to my barn sometime back in the summer and even though there are 5 electricians in the family, I have been running 5 fluorescent shop lights and various other intermittant things out there with 400 feet of extension cords run from my BIL's house. But the only time it's plugged in is when I'm actually there. Every now and then when it rains a LOT I guess the places where the cords plug together will get wet and it'll trip the GFCI that it's plugged into at the back of the house and I'll have to walk up and punch the reset, but other than that it works well enough to get me by.

In other news, it was too cold and wet to ride Saturday but I did manage to get out and find Tennessee's grazing muzzle that mysteriously disappeared one day. He had been confined to his dry lot ever since so I was really needing to find it. I had looked for it up under the trees where I'd seen him rubbing before but it wasn't there. It finally turned up not too far from the barn in some tall grass. The only thing I can figure is that he had help from one of the other horses in getting it off because there was nothing for him to rub it off with anywhere near there. It's another story for The Secret Lives of Horses I guess. ~:o/

I did get to ride yesterday and had a nice day for it. It was a bit cold and windy but the sun was shining nice. My old riding buddy Shirley was feeling well enough to go so just he and I went and we really enjoyed it. I only took one pic and it was of Hope when we stopped for our break, but here it is...

Just a really FYI as I'm at work...

Power went out sometime after one last night and the wind really, really picked up. I had just gotten power back when I left at about seven to deal with power related server issues here...I didn't see any major limbs down over at Hair and ecurbh's and all looked quiet, but internet wasn't working when I left. Probably should have stopped in to chat so I'd have more to report. Sure hope they're OK.

I'm sure they'll check in when they can!

We're supposed to get to do this all over again on Wednesday. :-\

Hey, thanks for the update Rosie...I figured she was just sleeping in from having such a tough day yesterday.

WEll, it turned out, according to the vet, that Nikki just has some muscle soreness in her back. He gave us something like the stuff Hair was talking about, to give her for a week. He seems to think she will come out of it OK. He did say she may need some everyday, and Mack and I said, if she needs it, and it will keep her going, we'll do it since there really isn't anything else wrong with her...

Funny thing, when we got home, I carried her back out to the barn and put her on her cushion, came into the house to get her pill fixed to give her, went back out and she had come up into the yard....I guess moving her around maybe helped loosen her up...

I'm going to move her cushion to the horse trailer, put a heater out there and start locking her up at night in there, she'll really stay warm there.

Becky

I'm glad that was all. Just got back from the stables. Josh rode Okie bareback today at a trot.

Hey thanks Rosie! We would've been wondering where they were if you hadn't let us know. I'm sure it's really nerve-wracking when the wind gets up in those trees. I'm glad they got the power back on so quickly. Those guys really work hard when something like that happens. Hopefully (for Hair's sanity) the cable guys will have their lines back up pretty soon too. I think she can do with out her coffee and cigarettes better than she can do without her internet. ;o)

Well, we'll see how she is after a week. I really do hate getting into medicating one all the time, it just doesn't seem right, but I guess if she can be her old self by just taking a pill a day. Just not sure at this point.

Sounds like Josh really has a lot of confidence and good balance. That is a good thing:)..

I'm glad to hear that Nikki's problem was only temporary. Sometimes we all need a little medicine when we get old. I'm sure she'll appreciate the extra warmth of the the horse trailer too.

Cindy doesn't need her medicine every day. He started on daily for a couple of weeks and then as needed. She can go months without needing it which is good because she is a pain. I have to straddle her and hold her mouth closed or she will spit it out.

Showing off a little too. I saw him setting sideways brushing Okies mane too. He tells me...everyone falls off and he wants to get his done and over with so he can get on with riding. Shrug. I told him to trot Sarah Lee bareback then. (A walk is a chore) He passed:')

I feed Susie a frozen brand of dog food, so I just get a pinch of it and stick the pill in that, and Nikki eats it right down...

I hope I only have to give it to her occasionally, I wouldn't mind that, I give her aspirin no sometimes, it just hasn't been working well. He did say tho, that it would take 3 days to start seeing an improvement.
