This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I've always thought that was pretty neat, and good testimony to how well a good trail horse will work.

I think it's more of a lack of confidence and fear of getting hurt. She was never completely confident around the horses, even before she had her accident, and afterwards she knew that her balance wasn't what it used to be and that just compounded the problem. I don't think she even goes down to the barn much any more. I think she's afraid that they'll hurt her, even with her on the ground, that she couldn't get out of the way quick enough if something were to happen. And that might not be too far from the truth. She gets around pretty darned slow, and none too steady. Plus she's got the same problem that the lady over on the Horse.com thread had with a bossy husband that thinks he knows everything about horses and actually knows very little. So I'm sure that she stays away just to avoid that.
Boy, that was a depressing dissertation wasn't it?! Sorry 'bout that!
Hey, we finally got Jake to take his Trihist! Ground up peppermint candy and mixed a little water in it and poured it on his food. He has been locked in the barn since Thursday. I think now the rain has stopped he can come out. Blade and Queen have not left the barn door much.
That was very thoughtful of you! If more horse people would think before they do something then the complainers wouldn't have anything to get all charged up about.
We lost the use of a campground that is adjacent to the Rails-to-Trails that I ride because some thoughtless Yahoos thought it'd be fun to WhupAndRide through the campground in the middle of the night. We used to be able to stop in there and use their bathhouse and buy a snack at their little store, but now they won't even let a horse set foot on their property. The bad ones ruined a good thing for everybody else.
So even though I would have expected nothing less than polite consideration out of you, I've still gotta give you an "AttaGirl" for setting a good example for everybody else, even though nobody but you may have ever known about it. Good Job Becky!
LOL....I do sound like I keep tooting my horn:)....my point was, I didn't not do it gracefully:)....I really liked that spot, it was perfect....I'm not being nice nicely:)
Becky
Well that was a good solution for him and you both! It tastes better for him, and you don't have to get all sticky trying to force him to take it.
Is his breathing better?
Yeah, but the point is, you didn't do it. I don't care if you B!tched about it or not. He//, life's not fun if you can't B!tch a little! ;o)
Well, I know I'm going to be tempted every time I go by there...it will help to know you complimented me about NOT doing it:) will help keep me on the straight and narrow.
Becky
I'm actually not convinced the problem isn't her. I don't know if the husband is likeable or not, but with a "helpmate" like this, who needs enemies? (Hubby came off Red today) Her husband gets thrown and she's gloating and congratulating herself about it to her friends on the internet. I just find it apallingly rude.
It was a very good neighborly thing for you to do. Good on you to have recognized it for what it was, many might not have realized it was planted or why.
Yeah, I read that and it really IS sad that their relationship sounds like it has deteriorated to that. But it really does sound like my sister and her husband. He's SO controlling and she just rebels at every possible opportunity, even when he's not trying to be controlling at that particular moment. It's the classic "Cutting off your nose to spite your face" thing and it's embarassing sometimes, because they don't care who they do it in front of. It's more about "scoring hits" against the other I think. There's so much water under the bridge with them that it's just a given and it sounds like the case with these two too. And maybe I'm just reading something into the converstion that's not really there, based on my own personal experience. I don't know these people's situation from Adam's House Cat.
Yes, nostrils not as flared and no snotty nose. Not sure if he can be ridden yet, need to call the vet. If we go this weekend one of us will ride Queen.
Lucky for most people your BIL does not get out much, he likes his hermit-like life.
I just think this whole thing is so descriptive. "The minute we got on the beach Red started to act up. Had his ears pinned back and you could tell he had a burr up his butt. Told hubby to be very careful and watch Red's ears and keep Red away from the water as Red is still afraid of the waves. We started riding and Doc and I took off running. When we stopped I turned Doc around to see where hubby was, he's usually on Red troting to catch up. This time hubby wasn't on Red."
Huh? She says in every post about him that he's not very skilled, and yet she can tell he's having some problems and she takes off running, expecting that maybe he'll be behind trying to keep up. (!!!) Now maybe he's a jerk too, but I ~know~ she is. Not a marriage I'd like to be in.
Don't be too hard on your sister. People should try to fight in private but sometimes challenging a controller is the only way to survive, if you don't want to be walked all over. Or so I hear, anyway:')
So how do you get a picture to post at the side of a post on the horse forum
Becky
I just read a few posts. That's really mean. I wonder if it really happened. My husband hasn't had his first dismount yet but the one time he came close really scared me. Made me proud too, the way he recovered. Of course we all had to listen about it all day. This lady has some major issues.
Ah - did you register over there? You have to resize it small, and then go in your profile and upload it. Do you have a photo editing tool that can resize it? I will for you if you don't.
I agree, I just think she's not a very nice person, she's definately not respecting her husband, but people seem to tell her what she wants to hear.
Can you imagine if her husband read that? I've learned to be pretty careful posting negatives about people I care about on the internet. Sometimes they see it, even if you don't think they will. I hope she's prepared for that possibility.

Otherwise, if I miss you here or there, it's cuz we're outside and we'll be back. I'm going to try to make a harrow drag out of pallets to drag and spread poo in the pasture. It may or may not work :~) Will take pictures anyway!
