The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

We never get trick or treaters... something about the padlocked gate, probably. :~D

Not even my friends come by any more... I guess Tiffney's boy is getting too big to trick or treat with mom now, Bob and Kay haven't brought Jesse by either the last few years. I usually buy a few candy bars just in case...

We never get trick or treaters either, and I don't have a padlocked gate:(

It will just be my grandkids who get to play with it.

I don't think parents let the kids trick or treat like we did when you and I were kids. It's a more untrusting world now.

I did good. I'm queen of the mountain. Sorry I kicked at you, when you tried to steady me. I just want to sit up here and enjoy the view awhile:')

Cool bowl. We let the kids go very few places and only those we know. However, we get swamped with trick or treaters.

Well, I'm actually glad if there are still trick or treaters somewhere :~)

It's been raining all day here, and Bay's been standing in the lean-to all afternoon with his head in his stall door. I think he's telling me it's time to get the stalls put back together so they can come in. :~)

Horses in for the first time since about May or June. The rains have returned. The mares are both soaking wet, Bay, who has been standing in the lean-to since it started, has only few raindrops on him :~) I guess he'll want his raincoat soon.

Cyn wants me to be bringing dinner instead of taking pictures, but yeah, they were happy to come in.

I'm trying Cyn back in the back again and she seemed fine with it... If you recall mid-winter last year Cyn started getting freaky about that stall for some mysterious reason and we switched Cyn and the pony and put Cyn in the middle. I really want the pony in the middle. That minimal divider between Bay and the pony was really designed for them. Bay never pushes the pony, but he and Cyn have occasional squabbles over dinner. If Cyn has to be in the middle, we'd strengthen that divider so Bay can get his head over and get after Cyn.

I wonder why he doesn't bother the Pony. Maybe just harder to reach?

He just has soft spot for the pony, he acts almost like her momma. He doesn't run her off if he's eating... he lets her eat out of his hay pile and he'll almost let her in his grain bucket, whereas he threatens Cyn for being anywhere near. He plays favorites.

You know another male probably is going to cramp his style, don't you?

Yes I do...

I'm not sure he'll tolerate another gelding well unless the other male is no challenge to him. I don't expect it to be smooth, that's why I am concerned about the close quarters I have here. The other possible stall is in the back there, to the right of Cyn. It's Bay's original stall.

Today is our 32nd anniversary....

Well Congratulations to you both!

Indeed the horses were comfortable, I didn't hear a peep out of them last night, except a Cyn thwonking her feed bucket a couple times in hopes it would make a second ration appear. It's been blowing all night too... Fall has arrived I think! whammo.
