The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

LOL...they do look like ole farts don't they:)

The festival was nice, but I'm glad it's over. Lot's of stress...

The city of Bixby is so corrupt:), like most cites. The officals that run this festival, just kind of run rough shod over the business down town. I really don't like to pull power plays, but we don't like being taken advantage of either. Our building/parking lot is just right on the corner where all the activities take place. We had to monitor who the parked in the lot. 1. we just had the lot overlaid, and it's not really made for heavy trucks. 2. there are business in our building that depend on that lot....

With out even asking, the "officals' had earmarked our lot for handicap parking. Mack stopped that, mainly because he had already given permission for others to park there who "asked". They also have the band that plays for the street dance on Sat night set up on the porch of our building, and of course they've never asked permission. We don't mind, but Sat. we had a conflict:\

For the last 3 years a school that teaches clog dancing has brought their students to put on a demonstartion in the street. It's really cool and I really like watching. Well Sat. an hour before they were to perfom people started setting up on the sidewalk and our porch to watch, me included. About 15 minutes before they started the band showed up, and ran every one off the porch, and said they were going to have to set up while the kids were dancing....I mean, that's just rude. These kids come out and these guys were going to be setting up a ton of sound equipment right in front of them....I decided to put a stop to that.

It's funny how mouthy people can get, till they are told whose who. I didn't want to, but it finally came down to, "I OWN THE BUILDING AND THE PORCH", YOU'RE NOT SETTING UP TILL THE DANCING IS OVER.

Needless to say, I don't think Mack and I are very popular with the city...I guess we don't have proper community team spirit:)

Becky

The ankle's a LOT better! When I got back to the barn and got to unloading the jeep and trailer, I kinda got it limbered up and figured out how to walk so that I didn't tweak it with every step and it worked out pretty well. I thought I was gonna have to cut my boot off when I got home though coz it was pretty swollen. I iced and elevated it as soon as I could and left it that way all night and I barely have to limp at all today, but it's turned all these really funky shades of red and purple. Good think I got socks on!

Good job, standing up for the clog dancers :~D Gotta love small towns :~D

Whenever three people or more form any form of government to do something, fun stuff happens. :~)

I hope that's all that your ankle amounts to, glad it's not worse today. Your boot probably kept it from swelling worse, but you probably ought to have been icing it yesterday instead of riding. What fun is that, right?

Well, you know you try to get along...but sometimes...the band wasn't even going to start playing till 10, the clog dancers were dancing from 8-9. I've just been wishing I would have spoken up sooner, before they ran the spectators off the porch and piled all their stuff on it....but at least they weren't setting up during the demonstration...

And in reality the "officials" really weren't even official. It's the Optimist Club that hosts the Green Corn....my question is who the heck are they:)?
