The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Thanks for the pics... Boy... Tuffy's bigger than I imagined! Has he ever been turned out with anyone except his momma?

No, he's only been out with him mom prior to this. He was too much older than the fillies last year to be put out with them. Then, through the spring and summer, we didn't want to chance him getting scarred up before a show. And now he couldn't be turned out with Quest because Quest is too young and laid back to defend himself.

We'd have put him out with his mom, Farah, except she is still nursing Red. We can't put Indy with anyone except his mom, she's the only one he won't terrorize, so that seemed to be the solution. Bob did say Tuffy seemed a little subdued when he put him back in his own paddock.

We worked on maintenance and winter prep again today! Feels good to get some stuff done. Here's the horse bits...

Cyn the bomb-proof... or at least, tarp-proof... Bay wasn't gonna get anywhere near that! He paces in the background while ecurbh shakes the tarp.

And here's Cyn again, trying to get involved with putting stuff on the burn pile...

And here's a new addition... the yellow thistle feeder for the really little birds. :~)

And here's the project we got done... pulled up the old patchwork of boards and old indoor/outdoor carpet that was our porch floor and put down some new clean plywood, put up the tarp as a winter windbreak for my little smoking spot outside :~)

As seen in "Better Trailer Living" ;~)

You guys do really good work. How about coming down here and whipping us into shape? :)

If you ever decide to show horses, Cyn is a natural for trail. Not Bay though :)

Cyn would be fabulous in trail class :~)

Bay would be more fun to watch :~)

Well, really, in this case it's a nice top dressing on a rotting porch, but we shored it up underneath and dressed it up and it will now make it through winter. If we're going to stay here, we want to rebuild the whole show next summer. Thinking the landlord might let us replace it in exchange for a month's rent.

We were supposed to finish fencing behind the barn today... we got side-tracked :~) I guess that's tomorrow :~)

Well, it sounds like you really needed to work on the porch first anyway. If your weather is anything like mine, looks like maybe we are going to skip fall and jump right into winter.

We're still warm and just getting our first rain... Not sure what kind of winter to expect.

We kinda put a foot through it :~) It's stronger now than it's been since I've been here.

We had hail and snow flurries Friday on the west side of Carson City, hard frosts out here each night since then also. I'm out covering up my garden with plastic every night now. I am hoping to save some of the tomatoes and bell peppers and let the eggplant grow a bit longer. I've lost the tops of several of them - we will see I guess.

To me, Tuffy doesn't look all that humble in the last picture:')

I wouldn't be surprised. I think we'll have a harder winter than last year.

I heard some where that that's what the Farmers Almanac is expecting.

He doesn't does he? Believe me though, he decided he's not quite king yet. I think he was surprised that Indy wasn't very impressed by him and his attitude.

I have been thinking it's time to get my snow tires on my car. I don't think I can legally until the 1st of October though.

So hard to imagine. I still have oranges growing and the pool circulating.
