The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Well, I guess I didn't do too bad. I just got a call telling me where land is for sell. The lady told me SL just needs more riding time, and reminded me about the chickens Friday. I hate those chickens. This time I'm taking an apron:')

Bummer about the radiator! Did it happen before or after your meeting?

How far is this land from your house?

Sorry about your truck...that is a pain when a vehicle breaks down and you're by yourself...

I'm feeling about like you were last week. I've been doing some bookwork all day, and it hasn't been going well...I'm done for the day, got me a beer, and may go ride later too:)

Was after the meeting...

I had a hint of trouble when I arrived at the meeting... got out, might have seen a wisp of steam and it smelled hot... but I was in denial at that point and just decided to go in, see how it was when I came out. On the way home I didn't get three blocks before it was steaming.

Maybe 10 miles. I'm tired of finding places and then my "honey" who encourages me gets chest pains . He comes and gets me when I can't find my keys and taxis my horse over high bridges for me so...what ever he wants to do. I'm just going to give him Margaret's message. He's upset with the stable owner so who knows. Maybe he will surprise me:') I'm done (for now) with looking . It's nice that I would be ok for a neighbor though.

Heh... I don't know whether to express condolences for the bad day or make a joke about RWI. :~)

Well, I would've done the same thing. There was no point in worrying about it before the meeting. You probably had enough on your mind at that point anyways without having to deal with that. Hopefully it was just a thermostat or a hose and not the full blown busted radiator thing.

Well, it was dry... honey brought water and we had to fill it... so it is leaking. Maybe just a hose, maybe the radiator. Radiators can be a few hundred dollar $$$$ thing right? Been awhile since I've had to do that.

I know what you mean about being in denial:)

I didn't mention it last week, I knew you'd freak:), but on the Fri. Celia and I left to go to the ride, we had a flat tire about 12 miles from the park. We had stopped to fill up with gas so that on Sun we could just pull out and head home with no stops. Some guy at the filling station came up and said "I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you have a tire going down on your trailer."

We had to put the spare on, (a nice man stopped an helped), he told me where to go to get it fixed, so we did that. Of course we figured everything was squared away.

Sun. we got about 20-30 miles down the rode going home and that same d@#$! tire went flat again (it was the same one Mack fixed before we left I think it's cursed). This is where the denial came in...about 5-6 miles before I finally stopped I thought I was smelling rubber:), but we had just passed someone else broke down and I hoped it was something from them, but then we had to slow down to go thru this little tiny town, and I could feel it pulling then. Once again we were lucky and a policeman stopped and helped us change it, so we had to come the rest of the way on my spare, and it wasn't in the best of shape. But we made it. But my point, denial kept that tire going for several miles:)...

The aggravating thing is the tire that kept going down is brand new. We just put all new tires on the trailer last year...it's cursed:)

Yeah, a couple of hundred sounds about right. The labor is the killer. If you have to get a new radiator, you probably ought to go ahead and get all new hoses and a new thermostat too if you haven't had them replaced in a while.

LOL...it wasn't really a "bad" day, I just don't like book work, especially book work that involves stakes of little papers, numbers, check stubs, bank statements....sigh....getting ready for taxes.

It might also be the water pump that's leaking instead of the radiator. Same story though, a couple of hundred bucks either way.

I would have done the same. It might have just been hot and needed water. You never know until they keep getting hot on you. We used the dogs water to get us into town when I took that trip with my Dad and the water pump went out.

Dang! Did you run over something that made it go flat again or did the fix give out?

Well it sounds like she might want to get better acquainted with you:)

I've been thinking:)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is the same lady that rode the TW??? and that he kicks and walks out fast???

Maybe you could ask her if she would go with you sometime, just you and her, and see if she would ride Okie at least for the first time or two...

Just a thought.

He's next but not yet. We decided we would rather have one ok at the beach that the other can follow instead of two spooked.

On Fri. I think Macks fix gave out:\, on Sun. I'm not sure what happened. We haven't looked at it yet...it may not be fixable now anyway. Knowing us it won't get looked at till the night before I want to go somewhere again:) We're bad to procrastinate:)

Thinking about it tho, I'm so glad I took the floor jack with me. Mack laughed at me for wanting it, but I always use the floor jack as it is easiest to use. But this time it saved me having to unload horses..
