The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts
look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in
. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics
land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news
. Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Oh well. I guess I'll repost. This is were I eventually rode in because a lady I was riding with was afraid her trailer too heavy. We started out going thru the entrance though

I let her look around awhile. No one was there. I called. They canceled and forgot to tell me. I was planning on just spending the night and riding by myself. The person I called showed up though. Then someone she called came out. It kept tricking down and about 10 showed up.
To: CindyDawg
I recognize that eye - it's the "just what have you gotten me into now" look. I'm glad you didn't stay the night and ride by yourself.

I walked her along the beach. At first she would step aside when the water came up but we kept getiing closer and closer. It was ok, when I was on her left side, and it would have to get me first but going the other way a little more spooky.

She looks so good in that picture :) - what a painting that would make.

Ok. I have to fill you in on some stuff about how we got to here. The other rider had a TW. He kicks. We started off across low sand dunes. Sarah Lee wanted her nose in his butt and didn't want me getting involved in her business. About 10 feet into the dunes and for the next mile was pucker riding. She did everything she could to dismount me. That butt came up and she tried to drop her head. Nope. Not happening again. Then the head tossing spinning and crow hopping. She wasn't happy up by him. I don't know what she wanted. At that time I really wasn't trying to get into her head but control her. The guys would walk and run. I didn't feel like she was listening and I wasn't giving her her head. She snubbed the two mares and the foal that was being ponied near us. She wanted with the TW. My calm brave girl turned in to a brat. We circled. I made her walk in the deep sand to slow her down. I made her whoa. I kicked her when she balked and leaned down and turned her with the rein when she refused. She was a real terror. About a mile they were out of site and she started acting "normal" I let her drop her head and we just walked but I kept those heels down, just in case. We circled trash cans and I just made her work. After 3 miles I figured my friends going to Corpus. Sarah Lee lathered up, panting and starting to stumble a bit so I got off and walked her into the water. That was the most coolest thing. I was up to water above my knees and waves were crashing to the saddle. She liked it. This horse can actually go out in the ocean. Anyway, we were doing fine now til the other horses came back. I have NEVER had any ground problems with her. She started acting up again. Sigh.

Oh. Let me stop a minute. That picture of her ears is for you. She is showing her butt and I'm thinking but I have to get pictures. I picked up the camera and she started again. I just clicked from the saddle horn in the general direction.

Is this cool, or what? Those are other riders but she is out in the water with me!
To: CindyDawg
I sounds as though you had your hands full. Not much fun but you did good. Wonder why the fixation on the TW.

I got a feeling my horses would come unglued if I tried that with them.

It wasn't all bad. Before the ride and the last two miles riding were fun. Playing in the water with her was a ball. I don't think I want to ride with a group anymore though. Just the two us was better. Something funny did happen though. We passed a big dog. I just gave her an easy and we went on by. A few minutes later we were attacked by a poodle. I didn't see him first and she jumped over but that was allowed. Over all with dogs, kids , cars, dune buggies and seagulls she did wonderful. She got bombarded with a lot today. We both did:')
To: Duchess47
That bridge is the one a barge hit. A lot of people went over and died. You can tell where. The pavement is different.
To: CindyDawg
I always liked riding with just one or two people, not a group. I guess I'm not a group person :)
She is such a good horse, I'm glad you did have some fun and you learned a lot about what you can handle. Attacked by a poodle :) that's something you might now live down.

How long is that bridge? It looks like it stretches for miles in the picture.

Terrific pics! If you came home in one piece it was a successful ride and good experience for you both! That picture of you and SL walking along the shore is a work of art! It looks like a poster that has a nice poem about friendship in the corner. Maybe Footprints in the Sand would be appropriate, as written by SL :~)
Handling the other horses, I do hope you'll go with the group again... following politely and making her keep an even keel just takes practice doing it. They'll all ~try~ to act squirrelly when horses are coming and going.
I'm just glad you finally got to go, it looks really neat to ride on the shore, something I really want to do sometime.
