The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Tuffy did wait patiently until we got to the shoeing area. There were lots of horses going this way and that so he got a little excited. We finally drugged him a little, with dormosedan. He did fine after that.

It was kinda messy but this should work out well. the shoer said he's never had one come off. Tuffy's feet are still wrapped up, setting, so I'll get some finished product pictures later, tonight or tomorrow.

Hair, Tuffy's angles are wrong since we've been letting his feet get bigger and he's been a bit off. You can't see the problem except with x-rays, that's why I took him in today. It's a fine balancing act we are trying to accomplish and we went a bit too far in the opposite direction, I think.

Interesting. Since I've been following that farrier forum, I'm interested if you can explain the angle issue and/or share the xrays.

Thanks everyone....my eye already feels better after napping all day. I'm up now getting ready to go out. We've had plans all week to go to an old friend of Macks that he ran into on a job.

No, no patch. The doctor said they have come to the conclusion that patch's over eyes promote infection...stays too moist and warm under the patch. Even tho it feels better to have the eye covered, it's better to leave it unpatched, but to sleep all the first day after an eye scratch...Eye's heal quick, usually within 24 hours. I can tell it's already a lot better, but that could still be the pain meds:)...I hope these people we are going to see tonight, whom I've never met, don't notice me staggering around like a drunk:)

I'm glad to hear the eye is better, although I think a patch would have made a cool fashion statement :)

I looked at some links so I guess I did. My car AC is ok though. My husband is going to overhaul it this winter.

Well have a good time, and take a lot of pictures!

I know you're going early to try to de-bugger SL, but I wouldn't stress about it. She might be a lot more buggery alone than she will be when she can follow other horses.

Yeah that's what my husband says too. I'm going to the stables and doing some lunging and maybe some riding but I'm showing up at 3 with everyone else. If she seems ok by 5 I'll ride.

Well, I'm not sure I understand it all myself. It's the internal structure that's out of alignment and putting too much stress on his navicular bone and, I think he said, the deep digital flexor tendon. I don't have the x-rays, unfortunately.

Do you think horses remember other horses? I was told that the more she is around their horses the better they ride together. Can they do that, seeing each other maybe once a month?

Could you have scatched it, when you felt something in it? I've done that before, just from rubbing.

They may not be able to be turned out together or allowed to touch (dont let her nose up to any horse, or let anyone nose up to you, they may strike), but they'll bond with and want to follow a horse they've been around, or been following, for even a short time.

Haven't done that but I've slept in the truck for heat, up in west Texas in the winter though:')

Maybe he can use it or get a couple of new ideas. I was impressed by the Mr Slim system. If I ever get my cabin built that is what I hope to use.
