This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Can you harass U.P.S. or something? Sit outside the vet's office looking pitiful?
ROFLOL:)

Repairman was there last Weds with parts. Apparently it was more broken than originally diagnosed. I know from work this does happen...message says motherboard is fried and when the new one is installed it then says "oops, your hard drive is gone too". The wonder of technology.
Repairman is driving from Philly to Cleveland again this week but am not sure of the day. Will call today at lunch if no update by then.
It was chilly and raining like the dickens last night, but I took a lesson anyhow.
Wore my Driza-Bone long raincoat - worked great. Everybody else was sodden and miserable. I had never jumped in it before, and I was worried that it would throw my balance off or restrict my movement. It didn't, though. Only problem was, the coat and the fantail skirt covered my saddle completely (it was dry when I unsaddled) but my trainer couldn't see my seat or my upper legs. I might as well have been riding in a tent for all the equitation coaching I got! But being nice and dry is worth a lot!
Gracie is definitely feeling the fall weather - we did a four jump bending line, turn to the first fence, three to a two to a one over an oil-barrel oxer. She got to GALLOPING down the line and overrunning the stride . . . not something she ordinarily does, and I had to half-halt her the second time through. But I overdid it, and she had to scramble the last jump . . . maybe by next week we'll get it together.
I don't like to jump her big more than once a week, usually I put the jumps down to maybe 18 inches and just practice the turns and approaches . . . trainer and I had a long discussion about people who overface their horses, especially teenagers who think their horses are made of cast iron. One kid at the barn persisted in jumping four feet 3-4 days a week, against all advice, and now her horse is dead lame. And "I told you so" doesn't help the poor horse much.
Husband is the IT manager at his job -- their shipping department computer was hit by lightning a couple of weeks ago, and it's exactly like you say. They fixed one thing, then something else cropped up, then something else. Thank goodness it has a warranty, they've called the manufacturer's rep in and I think they're going to replace the whole thing.
He checked them out and other then being so skinny, they are fine. The black one, Sable, really needs to be worked with. He could take the temp on the red one, Maddie, but Sable kicked out when he checked her on the sides, with the stethoscope. We will have to get them over that, before the farrier comes out.
A tidy stall keeper is an easy horse to keep around :~)
Will be interesting to see how the mare progress and what they know and what emotional baggage they bring with them. A fun project and challenge if you all are willing!
Err... mares plural :~)
First I'd have to have a harness that even fits. I've looked at a couple harness rigs at barn sales :~) But she's too big for small pony stuff, and too small for horse stuff.
No, Dusty has never had a harness on or pulled a cart before. I was amazed because she did handle it like a pro.
Do they make "cob" size harness? I've found that to be a good fit in martingales and bridles for the large pony/small horse types.
I wonder if she is really touchy, and the former owner thought he'd starve her into submission? (doesn't work.)
I know how frustrating it is, since we had to wait a couple of months once. Our situation wasn't nearly as critical though. Praying that everything is fixed and Duece is in soon.
I like Bodie better than Studly :) Bodie is a ghost town a couple of hours from here. Lots of gold came out of it's mines.
The only other option with a mass of this size is put him under full anesthesia and slice him open. None of us really wants to do that. Unfortunately this type of laser is very specialized and OSU doesn't even have one, so we're sort of stuck.
The dr has 3 other patients waiting for surgery as well. I just called out there and was told "the dr is in negotiations all day but will call you at the end of the day". He does not relay any specific info thru his office staff. She indicated they are as unhappy with the situation as I am. I'm trying to be calm and not spaz.
Hopefully will have some news before the end of the day.
Dusty is off my old mare and she was imprinted, then handled daily and over the years we've asked a lot of her. She will give anything a try except taking her right lead :)
Bob taught Prez to pull a cart with essentially that. It was a sled so in the dirt and sand it created quite a drag.
I'm sure they make stuff, I just haven't found it cheap at sales. :~)
She's Hackney... and I think she's a typical size for one. They're bred for harness, so somebody makes the stuff.
Studs and a lot of geldings find one area so it's really easy to clean their stalls and paddocks. Sonny and Prez won't even go in their stalls if they have access to outside. Bless them :)
Well, I'll continue the prayers and cross my fingers. Slicing him open has got to be the very last ditch option.
