This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Where's the link?
Becky
You were wearing a blue shirt.
Duh, I found it:)
I have it loading in another window, maybe I'll see it sometime today:)
Becky
Yep, that was Sat:), Sun. I put a tie down on him. I know, I know, that won't fix it, and I'd work on it here, but he's never acted like that before...Funny, I didn't need it Sun. I think it was the feed.
Becky
This is Celia.
The slide show won't load for me....
Becky
I couldn't get it to load either. I clicked one at a time and stopped about 40 or so.
He's just on the muscle and fighting you a bit is all :~)
Heck, I guess with my Bay, him being jacked up is the best sign I get that he's feeling great. I'm thinking about adding that supplement to Bay next year.
I think being a little jacked up at the start of a long ride is not a bad thing :~)
Oh, too bad. It's pretty cool. My cable connection went out right in the middle of it. I just waited it out and saw them all. That last part must have been coming or going into a vet check.
Better get my butt moving here and do something on this rainy day. Looks like house cleaning. After, I go check on my horse.
horses(s) :')
Well that would be very interesting if you tried it. I'd like to know if that was the case with Harley....the week off probably was part of it too.
I stopped by the feed store yesterday to tell them there how we did:), the owner asked me if I thought the supplement helped.
When I told him what I think it did, he said that was probably what was going on that it was very good feed for energy.
Well the only thing about a jacked up horse is it can blow your P&R's. Just because they are in shape physically, doesn't mean they will have good counts. I believe it's a mental thing too, how well they will stand there quietly and rest. Harley's counts were better on Sat tho then Sun.....go figure, other then the counts on Sun. were both taken after very very very long steep climbs, so given that, I think his were excellent.
Becky
Well I'm out of here. Once again... Good ride. Enjoyed the pictures.
But I don't have P&Rs :~)
I don't want to give Bay a heart attack or anything, he just might benefit from it next year, I'll see if they carry it here and see how he feels in the spring.
Just a FYI, the guy at the Purina seminar I went to said 1 lb of the stuff is equal to 4 lbs of regular feed. It's real high in fat. Yesterday I tried to copy the ingredient list and %'s of protein etc. but the site wouldn't let me copy it. Purina has come out with a whole line of supplements for different needs. You might want to check if the Amplify is appropriate for his needs. I don't like adding stuff, the feed itself I use is suppose to be balanced correctly and it is, I was just over doing it:)
Becky
Fair enough.... I'll check them out!
Okay, well if no water, surely faucets where you can fill buckets. If not, plan on up to 20 gallons a day I think. That's only four 5 gallon buckets but it's a lot to haul.
Great picture, snag that one and crop it and blow it up for your wall.
If I remember correctly, at the program I went to, the Purina rep said Amplify was for race horses or that type of work. We were thinking about it for the day before an endurance race.
Just another FYI:)
When I'm going some place that doesn't have water available, I carry a plastic 55 gallon drum in my trailer. You won't need near that amount for one day, but you don't have to fill it full. Then I just siphon it out. I got my drum at a feed store/farm supply place.
