The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Alison on Tubby. They took the pony for Alison to mess around with. They other little girl, is Ivy. She does very well and is Alison's competition.

Ricky, the trainer, who broke Biscuit. Gorgeous Paint horse he is training.

Have you heard back on your offer for the app?

She accepted my offer, but I have to pick him up this week.

Just want to make sure everyone understands that I did not compete against 63 riders....don't want to fly under false impressions:)

Understood, but still that is a large competition and a class of 12 is still pretty darn good! Quit being so humble ;-)

Are ya gonna?

Thanks for the pics, I agree, that is one gorgeous paint, and vey cute kids and dogs.

I am dreadfully depressed about a recent development with my job. Ever had management come in and want to change everything about the way you do things... so it will take you twice as long to do the same things you are doing now, to end up with a result that is only half as good? That just happened to me with a new centralized database we have to start using.

Was at Wal-Mart at lunch time and a mounted Police officer rode by on a pretty little App, he looked young but had a nice blanket. To bad I did not have my camera.

Explain the different divisions... is the weight the horse, or the rider?

Oh yeah, we have so many procedures it takes us twice as long to do things here. We have procedures for procedures. They say it is because our SAS70 certifications. All these new certifications for security and stuff since the WTC sure makes me miss toe good old days when you never thought of identity theft or planes running into high rises.

If there was one tangible benefit I'd feel better.

Right now the only 'reason' to do this is to be compatible with a bunch of other people who I don't ~need~ to be compatible with.

I was only competing against the 12 riders in my division, Novice heavyweight. Everyone does the same observations, and vet checks, but you only compete against the people in your division.

They do give an award to the person who scores highest overall in the Novice and Open divisions.

The difference in the weight divisions are the weight of the rider and tack. I believe the cut off is 189lbs is lightweight, over that is heavyweight.

The open divisions do more miles at a faster pace. Usually around 60 miles over two days and usually at 5 mph. The novice division does 40 miles over two days, usually at 4mph. The CP division does the same distance and speed as novice.

Once a horse has won 5 1st places they are not allowed to compete novice. Some people (I think I'm one of them:), do not want to do Open. So they have to move to the CP division.

If a rider wins 5 1st places they have to move out of novice, even if their horse is a novice horse OR ride HDC, which means they horse is competing but not the rider. Or vise versa, if a novice rider is riding a horse that has 1st placed out of novice the horse would be HDC...

I'm sorry, that's a real bummer. We ran into that several times with the city and our computer system. Last problem was 2wks ago when the city changed our web address. The address that's on thousands of library cards and forms.

LOL....OK, I'll tell you this, very seldom are classes as big as 12...so it was a big class for a CTR.

Okay, I understand. It is a lot like the endurance. You did a great job - both of you. :)

I don't know how much of these you'll be able to make out, but these are the score cards. This top one is the horse score card, front and back. The back gives the standards the judges are suppose to use in the 3 different catagories he is scoring. Condition Including P&R is 40% of the score, Soundness is 45%, and Trail Ability &Manners is 15%.

This is the horsemanship card. There are 3 catagories here two, but several catagories with the catagories:). Grooming, tack and equipment, in hand presentations count 20%, Trail Equitation counts 50%, Trail safety and courtesy, stabling, trail care counts 30%.

My job was getting depressing too. Now, I do what ever they want me to in two days. I want as far away from the politics as I can get. I worked all day for free today but I worked for me. Fixing to get out of here. I have an interview then going to the stables.
