The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Oh dear... what a bummer to get skunked on the last show.

A hand gallop is pushing the horse into a run, past a canter but not out of control. Something you would see in a rodeo, running from one end to the other. It's used in equitation classes but NEVER english or western pleasure and never with children.

Hair, have you heard from Becky yet?

Pictures of the show. Well, some - I got pretty disgusted and didn't take a lot. :)

First class of the day. Halter, stallions 3 and under. Tuffy being set up for the judge.

Summer's paint - he won the class.

Lisa's Arab - the picture doesn't show him set up but you can see him behind Tuffy in the first picture.

Prez's halter class.

The Color class. The black and white mare in the foreground won the class.

Still the color class.

Color class again - Summer's paint colt is closest to the camera

Brianna on Clifford in an English class.

Krista and Prez in one of the Wextern classes.

Krista and Prez in another Western classes.

Tuffy sure is stunning. And they all look terrific in the rest of the pics. It's a bummer to get so skunked.

The thing that strikes me as a funny, if Prez's neck was judged to be too long... The paint mare's neck looks too short to me at least in the picture. This judge has got a funny idea about ideal horse conformation. ;~)

This would have been a good show to bring True Quest to... He might have accidently placed an appy.

Hey - glad to see those english gals can show without jackets in the heat! But everyone still looks like they're dressed too hot in the halter class, even in early morning light. I'd wilt :~)

LOL - we were joking yesterday that if we had this judge for a show next year and still had Quest, we'd bring him. He'd be sure to do well and we could walk up to the judge and tell him his favorite was an appaloosa. :)

Yes, it was hot yesterday. The judge did allow no jackets for the english classes.

The judge really seemed to have no concept of good conformation. I did not get a picture but in another class a friend showed her Quarter mare, a two year old that is huge, extremely well built and well behaved. A beatiful sorrel. Her daughter showed another of their mares, a yearling paint with a sport horse confirmation. The paint placed above the sorrel.

Another friend showed her black mini who is nice looking but his head is a little long. He beat a beautiful dapple grey mini with perfect confirmation. :) The friend with the black mini came out of the ring and said "I'm leaving, the judge doesn't know his **** from a hole in the ground" She had just won the class and knew it was totally wrong.

Forgot to add, Lisa knew the judge as an Arab owner and has shown against him in breed shows and beat him every time. Another lady there, knew him and came up to me and said about the same. Very strange day all around.

Oh - no word from Becky.... She either doesn't have signal up there, or just didn't think of us to call :~)

Well, if he's an Arab guy, I'd understand if he placed the lighter sport horse type over the traditional stock horse type, but still... the black Arab didn't do well either, did he?

That lone Saddlebred/National Show Horse type looks out of place stretched out like that in that group, doesn't she? And hopefully it's just an awkward moment, she doesn't have him set right.

You noticed that too :) Not in that picture but in the western classes, a woman riding a dark saddlebred type placed second in one of the classes - her horse bucked in the rear every time she asked for a canter. :)

No, the Arab didn't do well at all. His sire, now a gelding, was ridden in the western classes, didn't place there either.

She's probably pretty busy. This was a two day event wasn't it?

RE the HSH... Well, being the only one parked out like that, he looks like he just took a pee. ;~D

She's got him stretched out so far behind him that he's headed uphill. His back should be level. She either needs to rock him back or bring him forward and set him up again with a more reasonable amout of park.

Yup, I think these are always two day events, so she's out there now... hopefully got an early start and is on the home stretch now :~)

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for her, hope she has a great weekend.

The horse reminded me of a dog in a dog show from a distance.

The horse with just the butt showing here, I commend her and don't envy her show grooming task. I don't know if she got him that white with bleach or bluing, but that tail couldn't be any whiter. :~)

The horse is almost all white, some color on it's head. The horse looked great and the tail looked like strands of silver in the sunlight. :)
