The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Personally, I wish they'd do away with the blocks. They're already absurdly silly with those blocks on. Soring is just adding insult to injury, IMHO.

I fully agree with you! And we have not even touched the subject of breaking tails! My neighbors show both padded and plantation shoes, which are not quite as bad. Their poor horse never get out to exercise, always in their stalls, their only activity is Saturdays at the shows. My horses (even 25 year old Queen) run and buck and kick up their heels almost every day and get to enjoy life.

Terrific... I like those a lot! We'll add them!

Ugh - I'm about to get busy here with some really picky ticky tacky technical stuff for work for the next couple hours... wish me luck!

Ah, you have time to look at this don't you, Hair?
3/4 Fresian and 1/4 Appaloosa.
That is one wild looking colt!

It's difficult to tell with him because of his wild markings, but he looks like he has the standard raccoon eyes and muzzle of a foal that is going to turn grey, so while Fresians are typically black, he may be greying out.

Agree. Should have let the show continue with the honest horses/trainers/owners.

I bet you are right. He won't be that flashy then. I am lazy today. Too much work the last couple of days. We do need to get hay tonight. Down to our last bale. :( Goes fast with feeding 5 head.

He'll still be striking as a spotted grey, but not quite as LOUD as he is now :~D

Good Morning.

Today is haul hay day. We picked up a few bales last night at one farmer's place. Second cut, Timothy/grass. Really nice hay, but the bales were small. Nice for handling thou. His place was pretty far away. Another fellow I know has second cut and will sell to me for $2.00/bale. He is a lot closer. We are going to need at least 400 to get us through the winter with 5 head to feed. We still have not picked up the 10 round bales. Not too easy to do, when you do not have the equipment to load it.

You all have a great weekend!

What? You think those blocks look stupid? LOL you're right. What a dumb thing to do.

I agree three.

Why punish the honest trainers? They should have let them compete and awarded the championship.

Probably would have wound up in the record book with an asterisk, but so what?

And Lord, yes, those blocks DO look dumb.

Now, I'm speaking purely as a hunter rider, but their gait looks so darned uneven, and the way they're throwing their weight back and bobbing their heads, the blocks are the icing on the cake. They look like they're trying to walk in loose galoshes two sizes too big.

Tennessee Walker video

Friend of mine had Plantation Walkers, and they didn't look nearly so strange.

About 250 in the barn today. We had plenty of help, so I didn't lift a finger. Severe storm warnings were out and we did get rain. Good thing we hauled in the horse trailer. It took 3 trips, with around 75 bales in each load. The man had to leave, so we will get a couple more loads next week. Very, very nice hay. I should have taken my camera, so you all could have seen his place. Him, his brother and Dad are big time grain farmers. Big buildings, all kinds of neat equipment. He sells all his straw to the race track in West Virginia. I have known him for years, and he used to come in and buy slag off of me, when I was working.

Glad you had a lot of help, it's a big job anyway, regardless!
