The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Interesting... and do you think the effect actually bleaches the hair? It might. I used to use a dilute bleach and laundry bluing (only old ladies even know what that is) on my stallion who was darn near white.

Harley looks fabulous. Now don't let him roll :~D

Well, I've been telling you there is nothing wrong with that horse:)

But sometimes there is! You know how it is with these animals, there's always something.

I'm thinking that must be what it does. The bottle says it add's highlights, but I think it must just bleach. I don't get tho, why they say to use it on palominos. Palominos are suppose to be gold, not silver. Would definitely work good on grays.

Thanks. He won't roll (I don't think) in the yard. Too much grass to eat. I've got him shut out of his run till he dries. He'll probably lay down tonight, but being clean like this, it brushes out very easy. I'd rather have given him his bath tomorrow, but we are going to try to leave early, I won't have time. And besides it's been pretty cool in the mornings, and evenings. He'll dry faster now. As long as he is completely dry, he'll be clean enough to go.

Well, yeah, you're right about that:\

I meant to ask you in the last post, you can see the line on him where I washed with the purple stuff and where I didn't in the picture? Looks more silver?

I think his shoulder looks lighter than the rest of him... is that what you mean?

I agree on the kind of enhancement, you want one that makes his color richer, probably, not lighter. I wonder if it would have effect if you used it just on his smut areas... is that hair color or just skin color variation?

He's smut spots are just skin color, the hair is still gold..

He's shoulders do have a more silvery effect, which you want on grays.

I'm still trying to figure why it would say to use it on palominos...one of life's little puzzlements:). Blondes don't use blueing on their hair, do they, just gray haired people???

I think bluing and blonde hair would just make it look rather green :~)

The pets are outside digging up the yard after our mole, which I applaud, if they actually get the mole in the process. I've promised a steak dinner to whoever catches it.

However, I fear I'm going to end up with a dug up yard, a live mole, and eating my own steak :~)

It is either a team, or a committee... I'll judge them by the result. ;~) The mole is really active today, new mounds keep appearing, and I already flooded the ones I found this morning.

Unfortunately, the one pet we have that's actually a better killer is gone. ecurbh took Gidget up with him to the beach house today to help paint.

The remaining pets like to play with things, but I don't know if they can get the job done.

OMG! There is so much! And, today, they went over all the forms we have to fill out on our clinical patients the night before clinicals.

My head is just spinning this week from all the new information and assignments we are responsible for. This first semester is going to be a hard one while I figure out what the h e l l I am doing!

Thanks for asking.

Boy, from his withers forward he's bleached. What a difference.

Before I forget, good luck this weekend. You are both ready for it.

I LOVE that purple stuff for my gray. It takes out all the nasty yellow looking stuff in his tail, and all the green stains from rolling in fresh manure.

I am sure that my bay has those stains too, but since they don't show up, I don't worry about them.

Oh, they need Tom there to teach them. Tell them the secret is to lay very quiet near the hole and when the mole sticks his head up, swipe him right from the side, out of the hole to a partner. Tom taught all my feral cats, (his two sisters and a brother) that trick. They got rid of all of the moles in my yard.

They definately need help. :~) They're getting nowhere.

I had a cat that was really good at moles. And I remember one landlord really putting up a fuss about me moving in because I had the cat and my little dog Zulu. I said... "The cat kills moles!" Looking at all the molehills in the yard... and the landlord jumped on that.

Within a week, the cat left a mole on the ~landlord's~ porch (It was a fourplex) Smart kitty :~D

Spotted Cyn havin' a day nap in the lean-to just now...

Pony was down too, in the shadows behind her when I came out, but she got up (sorry pony) Cyn doesn't care who knows she's napping.

I had no life. I walked around in a what have I gotten into daze. I studied cooking, I studied in the bath room. I would sometimes get up at two or three and study some more. You will figure out your style. What worked for me was outlining every chapter and I think I invented a new language with all my word associations:') You will do fine if you don't get behind.
