This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
When Alison started to show this year, my daughter couldn't show either. Just too much, to get both of them ready.
I can understand that. Four horses is a lot to feed and take care of as it is. And I do believe those two mares are going to turn out to be very nice horses.
I hope everyone, had a very nice Holiday. Today might be a good day for me to spray the pasture. Three acres with a one gallon sprayer, is going to give me a lot of exercise.
Morning all. Hope everyone had a nice long weekend. Mine was extra long as I had to take Friday off to go pick up Deuce. Laser still not repaired but I've been assured it will be tomorrow. Tech driving from Philly to Cleveland to fix it. Sounds like a personal Hell to me. Not sure which city is worse!
Deuce has to stay quiet at home. I've now seen the mass and it's pretty scary. He's been quite a gentleman while hand grazing. Not quite sure when he's going back. Depends on what time repair man gets done. It may be early next week.
Still hoping for a speedy resolution:)
Becky
Thanks!
Catfish and fried zucchini sounds good but I like purplehull peas better than blackeyed. I'm not sure why.
The hay deal turned out to be a total bust. I must've misunderstood or something because I thought it would be ready to pick up yesterday but it wasn't. Yesterday morning we moved all the old rolls out of the barn and cleaned it out so we could put the new rolls at the back and I kept waiting on the guy to call me to tell me when it was ready to load. But when it got to be 3pm and he hadn't called, I got worried that maybe he'd lost my cell phone number and decided to just drive over there, based on the vague directions he gave me on the phone when I first talked to him. Well, that was a bad idea. We never did find the hay field and I got a $125 ticket from a State Trooper for not having any working lights on my hay trailer. Jeez! I didn't think you had to have lights on a farm trailer as long as it was daylight, but now I know better. But at least he was nice enough to tell me that if I got the lights fixed and hauled the trailer down to the courthouse on my court date that he would inspect it and recommend that the judge drop the charges. Or I can just pay it and go on. I don't know which I'll do, but it's aggravating in either case. Live and learn I guess.
The hay guy did finally call and told me that what he meant was that they would be finished rolling it yesterday. but couldn't get his tractor down there until Wednesday because it was broke. Well, I have to work Wednesday and I leave for Colorado on Thursday and won't be back until the next Tuesday, so the earliest I would be able to pick it up would be the weekend of the 16th. So I've got to meet him out at the hayfield this afternoon after work and make sure the hay looks good enough and go ahead and pay him for it so he'll hold it for me until then. The hay is mostly Dallas Grass, which I've never really heard of, mixed with some bermuda, but he says it's good hay and at this point I can't be real picky. So we'll see I guess.
Wow Becky, that sounds rough. A lady I work with got poison ivey on her face and neck and her whole head swelled up. You could barely see her eyes. I've never heard of that kind of reaction to Splenda. That's kinda scary. Hopefully they can get you cleared up and you can avoid it from now on.
Huh - I don't know.... Geting a shot of cortizone or something? Going to a real doctor or just picking up some shots at the vet? :~)
$125 ticket gak!
Oh man....too bad about thet ticket.
Becky
LOL, so funny you should say that about a real doctor:). Most everyone in town thinks this guy I'm going to is a quack. He's not a quack, he's just very very very old.I wouldn't go to him for something that I didn't know what it was and what the treatment should be. He rents his office space from us, he's been in the same office for about 40 years. He has to have a walker to move around,a dn in the office he just rolls around in his doctors chair:).His eyebrows are about 3 inches long and stick out over his eyes like sun shades:).A vet may be safer.
I'm down here at the building now, waiting on him to get here. You never know when he is going to be in, he only takes walk ins.The nurse told me he was coming in today, but it all just depends on how fast he is moving...
BEcky
LOL!! Sounds like Andy Rooney!
Heh... Hey, sounds like the doctor I'd choose too.... I hate doctors. Sounds like he'd have the least red tape and wouldn't charge an arm and a leg.
Good luck... sounds like it's been a pretty miserable experience. Hope he can give you the shot in the right place. Cortizone should be a muscle shot, right? :~) Maybe pills would be better. Slower, but....
At a rest stop. This was the "fast ride" so consequently it was an all gaited group.
Here we are at what I like to call "The Top of the World". It's not all that high, compairatively speaking, but you sure can see for what seems like forever. You can just barely see the camp we left from and all the white horse trailers in that gap in the distance. The guide said it was 5 miles from where we were to there...
Me (in blue) and Hope along with another girl I met on the trail...
Duchess, I took this one just for you. It's a GAITED App! This bugger could gait with the best of them!...
Hosses in the woods with big rocks...
A formation they call "Wave Rock" for obvious reasons...
Very cool! I love that wave rock! Hope looks very grown up with a rider on :~)
Hard for me to visualize that the soft rolling hills in those wider shots is the same country that has those big rock formations. They don't seem to go together!
That looks just like the country up around Sand Mountain in NW GA/NE AL. We've done some riding up there, around Chickamauga, and we've hiked Cloudland Canyon - the rock formations up there look almost the same. There's even a "wave rock" up in Cloudland Canyon too.
It's the same basic mountain range I guess, the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. I've been over to Little River Canyon and I've ridden at Chicamauga once. I think we talked about it before. But I've never been to Cloudland Canyon. Don't they have a ski slope over there with manmade snow?
You've got mail...
