This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Do that often enough and you'll make a trail!
Thanks for the pictures, looks terrific, I recognize the rails-to-trails part because ours looks the same, very flat, and very straight :~)
That whole swamp is a beaver pond? I know it's a pain, but I think that's pretty cool, what they can do.
Yes, and that is just part of it. Farther down the trail, there is a larger area. We came out right between the two. One of these days, it might be all flooded. Gives the "city slickers" on their bikes something to look at. We saw a couple of pretty big turtles on a log. Makes for a nice habitat anyhow. The water should not be too deep, but I didn't want to try it with two green horses. Never know what the bottom is like. Used to be a gas well road and it was gravel, but it's under water now.

There needs to be some serious tree trimming. Poor Amy on that over 16 hand horse! God Bless the people who maintain public trails.
Very nice pictures:). Your trails in the woods are nice. In the last picture is that like a bike/jogging trail? I wouldn't have thought that Amy's horse was that tall till the last picture:). You can tell in that one that he is.

Ok, I see that you did say it was a bike trail....That is cool that they keep the sides clear for you to ride a horse by them. How far could you go down it?
Becky
Happy first day of September and Friday too!
Everyone have some great plans for the long weekend?
Biscuit just turned 3 last month (late July). We hope she stops going up and fills out some. An excellent English horse prospect.
Good morning :~) Have company coming tomorrow, will be cleaning up around here today.
My brother and Ruthy and all the kids are coming down, we'll be running them, and all the dogs, through the corn maze. :~)
It's a fire truck this year!
We are going to pick up the two skinny horses tomorrow. I was going to get the Appaloosa gelding, but, I emailed her about the shots and if she had a transfer for him. She said she had a bill of sale. Well, I emailed her back and asked if she did have the registration papers. She said she just sent them in and would mail them to me. It's not I don't trust people, but no way am I paying 2300 for a grade horse!
If you really want the horse, offer her half the money and tell her you will pay the other half when you recieve the registration papers and signed transfer of ownership.
I have done this before myself. I am like you, don't trust them to send you the papers later.
Ah - well I'm glad you're going to get the skinny horses first, they need picked up :~)
Do remember to take pictures!
Hope the papers thing gets worked out... does that mean you'll wait until the papers are returned before you buy? Or perhaps just hold back on half the money?
AH GMTA :~)
Well, we didn't make the 5 hour mark today:), the humdity kicked in and we just had enough by 3 hours. But we did at least 15 miles in that length of time, AND, he did not flinch at all when I checked his back.
I'm guardedly optimistic that the new pad fixed the problem. I have a tiny bit of hope now of checking in sound now, a tiny bit:)
The corn maze looks great, and fun:). Have fun.
Becky
Sounds good. Optimism is good :~D
Is the ride ~next~ weekend then or another week?
The ride is next weekend.
Strangest thing too... I guess Wed. somewhere I got into poison ivy. My right eye was swelled shut this morning. It's totally encircled, I've got some on my arm, neck, stomach, and leg....
I don't know why I broke out, never have before....
Becky
ACK - How awful! My condolences!
HI, it's Delmont, looks like I found the right place, will try to remember and report back this on 9/11. Our plan is to just try the whole Mt Adams area and see what we find. We all block out this much time on vacation each year and keep getting pushed out of Eastern Wa so hopefully I can report on two or three places there.

This is my husband and me on trail. Mine is a 25 year old Arab, his is an Arab Mustang cross.
Hey welcome to the thread:)
I visited Hair and ecurbh earlier this summer to ride horses. They took me to Capitol Forest...I can't imagine any places any prettier then there, and there seemed to be lots of trails.
One place in particular was just beautiful. A place up high that had been clear cut, you could see Mt. Rainier, Adams, and St. Helen's way off in the distance. It was incredible.
What kind of horse is Willy? Here at home I ride a Quarter Horse, and do Competitive trail riding. I'm getting ready to go to one next weekend as a matter of fact. It will be 2 nights, 3 days. I can't imagine the work involved in a 10 day horse camping trip:)..I think that would be more then I care for, but I'm very impressed by those that do it.
Hope to see pictures of your rides. Come visit us here often.
Becky
I've made a decision to be pro-active about the rest of this summer or it's going to slip away without us making good use of it :~)
We need to go on at least one more good trail ride up in the forest in the next few days. Hopefully there'll be time for even more than that, but we'll see.
There's some other small trips and things we keep talking about doing but never get around to. We want to take a 2-3 day drive around the Olympic Peninsula to see all those sights, and we'd like to take a 2 day drive down the WA and Oregon coast. There's other things too, places I'd like ecurbh to see in the state, but if we can accomplish those two things I'd think we've done well for this year.
I feel like we did a good amount of riding this year, so if we do some other things for the fall and don't ride too much, I won't feel like we've wasted any of Bay's remaining time. We finished the summer with Bay sound, which I am pleased about. I'm hopeful he's not done yet, no matter how we spend the rest of the season!
shaking my head....You're going to worry that horse into an early grave...he's fine, he's got lots of years left...it's not like you're overusing him:)
Becky
