The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

It's probably a good confidence and skill builder for her to do it... Everybody should start one before they're too old to take a hit. :~)

LOL - that's so true though. Everyone works and pays attention until I go out :) (not that I spoil the horses or anything)

Trust me on this one...it may hurt more but you are never to old to take a hit.

I'm going to make an offer on 20 acres around here tomorrow. It will probably be turned down because it's a lot less than they want but it's all I can afford. You never know till you try though.

I'll say a prayer, keep my fingers crossed and visualize you as the owner of twenty acres :)

I thought he was just around 2. Too young, IMO, too except for just short periods of easy riding, physically speaking, but it will be good for him mentally. He'll learn what his purpose is, before he develops a mind of his own.

I agree too, her seat isn't the best, but for her too, short periods on him, in a confined area won't hurt. Practice is all it takes. Can she ride a different one that isn't so green so she can work on that without the added worry of a green one?

It could be a good confidence builder, IMO, as long as she doesn't take a hit. She's such a new rider, if she takes one at this stage, it could also be a confidence breaker....I don't mean to be negative, but I think hits during the learning stage of most riders, makes them shaky on any horse...

I've always worried about new riders, at any age, getting turned off of riding because they were riding more horse then they were ready for. Of course there are a few people out there who can raise above anything....I"ve always been jealous of those types...it doesn't take much to set me back:)

Good Morning.

Raining here again. Good day to go to my favorite store...Home Depot! I need to buy some metal shelving. My truck will not fit in the garage on the side where the fireplace comes out. There is a big wooden bench on the other side, which needs to come out, then I can put my truck there. The bench has all kinds of stuff on it, and I will move to the metal shelving. Only thing, the truck will block the side door. Just have to go in the big door.

I made an offer on the Appaloosa gelding of $2000. She countered with $2300. I think I am going to get him. We are picking up the other two on Saturday. SIL is going to have to build two stalls now. We are going to be a bit crowded. Daughter has way too much stuff in that barn. The joy of working at a tack store. :)

What a relief for you. With rain the last couple days, everything is greening up again. I want to spray the whole pasture with weed killer, then reseed. This is suppose to be the best time of the year to do it. Rain is predicted for another day thou.

She looks really uncomfortable. Is it such a good idea to put an inexperienced, large rider on such a young horse?

Good. If she's countering, she'll come down a little bit more.

Don't be in a hurry - try not to look anxious!

That "Sees Mama" stuff will get you every time.

Must have been my dog's 2nd or 3rd agility trial - she was right in the middle of the dog walk (which is about 5 feet off the ground) when she saw my husband off to one side of the ring running the video.

You could just see her face light up - she went, "DADDY!" and FLEW off the middle of the dog walk, tore across the ring, JUMPED the ring fence and ran up to start jumping and licking his face (leaving Mama standing in the middle of the ring wishing the earth would swallow her up.)

My mare is starting to get that way. When my husband rides she needs more steering when I'm around. The other day the stable owner wanted to check my new saddle. My horse would look at her and start to walk towards me. When I walked over she stood still. I need to stop it but it's hard though when it strokes my ego:')
