The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

My dad was born and raised in desert AZ, Phoenix area. He said he grew up with the habit of always banging his shoes together upside down to knock out Scorpions that would hide in shoes. He still does it today... the fear of something in your shoes doesn't go away even when you leave scorpion country, I guess :~)

~shudder~ That gives me the willies even thinking about it.

I do that myself if the shoes (or gloves for that matter) have laying around for very long. We don't have scorpions or tarantulas but we've got Black Widows and Brown Recluses. I don't know which is worse!

Until we got some pegs put up (about 15 years after we moved here:), to hang our coats on, when we came in I was real bad just to drop mine on the floor by the front door. (I know, I'm a slob, to lazy to hang it on a hanger in the closet). Any way, 2 times I was stung by scorpions that had crawled inside it. The sting didn't really hurt at all, just felt like a little pin prick. But then when I'd check the coat to see what was sticking me, and shook out the scorpion, well then the comedy commenced:)..AAAHHHHH,,,eeeehhh,,,OOOOOOO...LOL...they are such creep looking little things, the ones here it just gave me the willies.

Yeah - anything that comes at you with a big long stinger on it's butt is creepy. I don't know how bad the sting is, never been stung by one, but they scare me worse than snakes.

The scorpions here are pretty small, maybe 1 1/2 to 2 inches long, they're just creepy.

I'm with you, I'd take a snake anytime over a bug, any kind of bug:)

Right now, I am in brain overload. They really threw a lot of stuff at us today. And, tomorrow, I have a math mastery quiz that I have to get 90% on. You get 3 tries to pass then you are out of the program. We have to memorize equivalencies and perform drug dosage calculations. 20 questions at 5 pts each, so I can only miss 2 of them.

I'll be spending the rest of this evening studying.

Once we get past the math stuff (first 3 weeks) I will enjoy it more. I think it will be fun once we get to actually start to do stuff in the hospital lab and in clinical settings.

We get to practice bed baths on each other before doing actual patients.

My Jack tried to bring his half-eaten rabbit in the house this morning as I was getting ready to leave the house for first day of nursing school. I had to glove up and pitch it.

Then, I had a nice present waiting for me when I got home. He ate too much rabbit so left me several presents in the living room, hall, and entrance to my bedroom: doggy poo doo, from rabbit overload.

There is no better entertainment than a couple of live blue crabs loose on the kitchen floor full of barefoot relatives.

Yes, this is from first hand experience.

Lol. I know. I didn't have the heart to warn you, yesterday. You would not have believed me anyway. It's one of those things you just have to experience for yourself:') Most classes the first day are orientation. Not nursing. I came away with "what have I got into". I had the worst headache. The first semester they cull hard. Just don't get behind and you will do fine. Study, study and study some more. Read those graphs and boxes in your books too. They get sneaky and like to pull questions from those.

Back from town, we went and had a burger and got some feed and farm supplies. I was gonna mow lawn but I'm all sleepy. My sleep patterns are all messed up.

Pictures of Quest's lesson today :)

These were hurried because I had to move away from the ring when he got to my side - he wanted to stop and see me.

He was two in May, so 27-28 mos old. Too young IMO but who listens to me. He's 15.3 hands.

He appears to be enjoying himself except when I walked up to the ring it was "Oh, there's mom :) must stop for scratchs" type thing.

Janelle doesn't have the seat really to be doing this, again IMO, but I think they are probably going to put Shelley aboard soon.
