The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I had a bird in college - a parakeet - and I really liked him. He was loose most of the time and would sit on my head, or in the plant next to my desk by the window.

They're neat. I'd love to have one but I have too many members of the food chain in the house.

I don't recognize the type - he looks almost like a newt, like he'd be at home in water doesn't he?

He might, though he was far from water in the pasture. We have newts too, in the lakes, that look different... dark brown with an orange belly.

What kind of bird is he? I have one lovebird still, the other one died of old age. Gotta admit though, I'm afraid of birds, (including chickens) so he never gets out of his cage. Well, I've had to take him to the vet a couple of times but I trick him into a smaller cage and take that.

Our lizards here are dry and scaly looking, or horned toads. Most of the lizards have ringed necks.

I had a parrot. Someone stole him. He was ornery but I liked him. This one is more of a people person . He's a little thing though. That lizard. We have them all over the place. They like windows:')

Just a parakeet. I'll post a pic later. I'm studying right now for recertification points.

Okay. When you post the picture you can explain about recertification points also. Is this more to do with your own business or do you have to be recertified yearly in some of the stuff you do (like CPR type stuff)?

Bags of water hung to keep flies away

This really works. I've been hanging baggies half filled with water from the wind chimes on my porch since last summer. Almost no flies when before, my front porch would be black from them. It's great and so easy.

Nurses can specialize in certain areas. I'm certified in rehabilitation. I have to have a certain amount of continuing education hours every two years. I have a lot already but I need some more. I'm taking on line in-services this weekend to finish up.
About my business. I'm still waiting. I got a call last week. I was told all they needed was the date of my fiscal year and she was turning my application in for certificate typing. No telling how long that will take:').

Okay, I understand that. Sounds like it won't be long before you're your own boss. What fiscal year are you running? Ours is Jan-Dec but at work it's July-June. Then of course the government, Oct-Sept if I remember right.

We had a big storm come thru last night just when I was reading all the posts. I had to unplug everything, lots of lightening, and the electric kept going on and off. Lots of rain, you can almost hear the trees sighing with relief this morning. Could be very humid this morning, as the temps are suppose to get pretty high, but after today we are "suppose" to get a break from the heat, highs in the 80's:)

That is strange behavior...especially since it's new.

When I lived in the Philippines, we had little lizards similar to this one that lived in the house. They crawled up and down the walls and ate lots of bugs.

I have a few around the house here in Texas too. They are welcome here but the critters (2 cats and 1 Dog) sometimes get them. Usually, they stay up high on the walls and stay safe. But, if they get down on the floor, they are goners.

Between the lizards and the pets, I only have the occasional spider or other insect in the house.

Mine ends Dec 31st. I'm thinking about the time I'm open, it will be time to report again:') At least it isn't on my birthday. I hate it. Nurses lic, certification, Drivers license, gun permit etc all come due. You also get the birthday cards from AARP, life ins companies, funeral homes, incontinence product info, ensure discounts etc. Birthdays can get really depressing if you let them!

No, with the storm that came in, it actually cooled off enough that we were fine in the house, with just fans, and every door and window open:)

Today may be a different story tho, the humidity is going to be terrible, but we are expecting more rain.
