The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

We're happy to see pictures, makeup or no! Sounds like an adventure, with gettin' lost and all. Glad you went! Jodie looks a little concerned, as all Arabs can be. Tubby looks like a great pony. I wish we could stick a kid on ours.

I don't know what else I can add to my other posts, but I don't want you to think I'm ignoring yours. If it is a big concern for you, all I can say is don't ever buy a ticket. Stand your ground . I respect that. It isn't an issue for me. I bought two, but sadly the fun in doing so is gone now.

Good pictures. I was reading in a book the other day about some sport where you are given a map and negotiate with a compass. I was thinking "yeah right. I would get so lost".

...can you imagine how people lived there a hundred years ago without AC?

Yeah, they stayed outside in the shade as much as possible...and smelled MUCH worse! ;o)

Sorry the fun is gone... I hope you win.

I'd buy tickets too, if I couldn't talk them out of the idea at the start. Better someone who at least knows what horse ownership is about buy tickets than someone who doesn't have a clue.

Oh wow, that looks so painful. Poor horse. Can you get the kind that just goes around his neck?

YOWCH!

It's oozing puss too, isn't it? Got good antibiotic ointment? Furazone or something?

I'm going to stop and pick some up when I go back to town. I can't hold him and doctor it, and he won't stand still for me to look, I barely got the picture. I'd be afraid to tie him and work on it. Tonight when we get home Mack can help hold him, while I put some meds on it.

I never had luck with the ones around their necks, they can shake them loose and then it's really hanging out there to get caught on something.....I'm not sure what I'll do, I've turned him out hoping to keep him busy enough that he won't crib, but that won't last long with the limited grass out there.

The fun shouldn't be gone if it's not an issue for you. You're entitled to your opinion, just as everyone else here is.

Sounds smart to wait for help, I wouldn't tie him either, I think he'd hit the ceiling if you touched it too much.

I can't tell how deep that is, but I think it's at least possible some veterinary care and a stitch or two is in order. It definately looks like he caught and cut himself with it, not just a rub. I'm surprised he didn't break it. Anything else around broken that he hooked it on?

It's not all that deep, but it is more a cut then just a rub. I've doctored alot worse with no stitiches. The best antibiotic cream I've found even for horses is just neosporin.

I've doctored worse on big soft tissue areas, but I think the show part of me is still particularly careful about faces... We don't want scars on faces.

I'm not surprised it didn't break. This thing is made tough, maybe too tough....I'm wondering if he didn't put his head thru the panels and got the buckles caught...He does that sometimes when Harley is out in the yard and over by the panels...

Neosporin is good, that's what I've got in my first aid kit.

I like the powdered spray Furazone for weepy things, because it's very drying, unlike the gooey gel. But I don't think I could get near that with an aerosol, the can's scary too them and it's too close to eyes to spray it.

LOL....Rocky is very meaty right there, really. It's hard to bet bridles with brow bands to fit him. We've always called him a fat head:) And too, it's under his forelock. I think now it's been there a day or two, because the other day I saw him standing with his head turned funny, my first thought was it's time to get his teeth checked. Then I didn't think much about it till today when he was walking towards me and I could see something in his forelock. I reached to brush it off, and felt it was hard, and he jumped back like a whip.....When I took the collar off he jumped back too, I think it was stuck to it and it pull...:( I'm surprised I got that picture, he wouldn't let me take anymore, if I even reached to raise his forelock he would jump back.

Sounds like an adventure! I'm glad they handled it so well. Tubby is absolutely adorable! Alison looks like she's having a blast too. I'm glad to hear that you're getting back out and riding again!

Hey, I wasn't knocking you for buying one. I've bought them myself from time to time even though I need another horse like I need a hole in the head. I would say that the horse would be pretty lucky if it got to go home with you. I was just worrying that he wouldn't be so lucky and have to go home with some nimrod. :o)
