This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
:) I see you on this horse at horse shows - looks like halter would work, western pleasure, trail of course.
Take the trailer and $2500 in cash when you go to see him - just in case :)

My daughter riding her horse Winnie.
She looks like she's doing great... Any side effects or issues with the nerving? Does she trip or is she as good on her feet as anyone else?
Hello, very busy day here....JP came and played:)
MT: I think having your own horse inspires more interest.
Tuffy:) nice video:).
Becky
She seems pretty normal. Tuffy trips a whole lot more than she does. Mandy calls him stumbling tuffy. I think the difference is that Winnie isn't lazy, Tuffy is. Very lazy.
Well, thats really good. Good for her :~)
What's she going to do? Does she want to show or anything?
Wondered where you were! Looks like we aren't riding this weekend, we're going to go up to the beach house tomorrow and staying overnight...
Rosie will be feeding horses for us so we can be away a night :~)
That's actually the first time Mandy has ridden Winnie in a year or more. I rode her once a few months ago, that's all the riding she's had. I lunged the heck out of her before Mandy got on and also made sure Mandy had her helmet on.
She would like to show but she flat doesn't have the time. She enjoys jumping but I don't have a horse for that anymore. George used to be my jumper but he's long past that and Mandy outgrew him anyway.
I'm not riding either again till Mon. Tomorrow I'm playing with the other grandson:), Tucker, then going to a rodeo with Jenny to watch her niece run barrels.
It was very very hot here today, but the forecast is calling for cooler temps next week...
You all have fun at the beach house...are you moving bark again, or just going for fun? Did the trapper ever catch the mole (?), or whatever it was tearing up the ground there?
Becky
Both of them are doing great. She doesn't look at all nervous for not having ridden her in so long.
I tell ya, I was nervous. She was doing some serious bucking when I lunged her but she always seems to calm down and get to work when someone gets on.
The mountain beaver has not been caught in the traps, they aren't working, but I'm gonna have Gidget try, dad said he's hauled away ~three wheelbarrow loads~ of debris the beaver has tunnelled out of the bank... he's doing a lot of damage, and, of course, dad ever-worrying about the neighbor's drainfield, now thinks the sewage is going to find a path in the beaver tunnels to our yard :~)
I guess mountain beaver are about the size of a football.

I think if Gidget catches wind of him, she'll sit at the hole till he comes out :~)
Well, even Bay can buck on the lunge when he wants to. Good for her if she can have time off and still be good. That's a valuable feature in a horse!
True. That's one of the reasons why I went to the trouble and expense of having her nerved. She really is a good girl.
Enjoyed watching them.
I could pull Lady out of the pasture after 1 1/2 yrs and saddle her and ride her - no problem. If I pulled her out and put her on a lunge line she just had to work out some kinks :)
Your daughter and that mare look really nice. She's a very pretty mare. Nice easy lope too.
"That was just her way of saying You don't really want to ride - well, do you? Since you didn't buy the bluff, she did what she was supposed to - behave with a rider."
Huh, I didn't even think of that. Good point.
