This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
It's exactly like what they do in the back, only it's not typical for them to do that with fronts. Don't know why :~)
So what did you get?
Becky
OOOOO, Bays are my favorite color. That is what Belle was.
Becky
Thanks, I owe Frog many Thanks for her help training this horse. It was three years old, green broke and dumb as a box of rocks when it first came home. In no time at all I was able to fire a revolver from it's back.
Well he is beautiful:)
Becky
Thank you! It is a mare though. Geldings are great but gotta have those colts. : )
Well, she was an exceptionally layed back horse and perfectly suited for what you wanted to do with her. Her only bad habit was stopping in the trail and assuming "the position" in front of Tennessee when she was in heat, like he could help her. LOL!
Well, she had red hair, what did expect her to do? : )
ps, there is a thread going that women with red hair have more sex..........
A coyote ran away from near my barn this morning as I drove up. I suspect it is stalking the barn cats that stay there.
I haven't read all the posts yet so someone else may have suggested this already. We condition endurance horses as follows: One day pushing 15-20 miles, mostly trotting and cantering, one day doing hills, one day doing a lazy trail ride, no push, no big distance, one day - just some exercise in the arena. We try not to work them more than every other day with in-between a lazy trail ride or some arena work or the day off. They don't need to work hard every day to stay in shape, just often enough that they can do it when asked. Some times they are trailered (like out to the hills or to the scout camp along the river) sometimes a loop from home of 11 miles one way, along the highway, or another loop of about 8-10 miles total through the desert.
But her mare is foundering again today on page 4.
Thanks Duchess:)

Another beautiful day here. Yesterday, I was stuck in the house all day. My back is still hurting. The doctor said to take Advil. It helped some, but I will go back tomorrow if I am not better. Weather is too nice, and I have too much to do.
Oh dear.... did I miss something? What did you do to your back?
We were going to go help my dad with yard work again, but I guess he did some yesterday without us and he's tired today, needs a day off.
I'm sorry your having some back problems. That can be so frustrating.
I just got in from riding. It is so humid....even tho temps were only around 82-84, I was sweating like a race horse the whole time...really takes it out of you.
Harley seemed to do pretty good. Julia was with me, and she only ever wants to walk. But I did take her to some places where there was good hills to climb. The hill slowed him some, but he never stopped.
I just talked to Kristy, and she told me something that made my day. She said last night Charlie came home and asked her if she had seen the "yellow horse" lately. she said no, and he said "well, he is really looking good"....maybe he's not as overweight as I thought. Before I took him to the ride this spring, Charlie had told me he thought the horse was a bit too heavy...hard to tell when you look at them everyday.
Becky
Well, the yeller horse is looking pretty good :~)
I just got in from feeding. My horses think they're being neglected :~\
An interesting phenomena has developed from using the massage stick on Harley. When I massage him after we get back, he gets so relaxed that "everything" hangs out:) Yesterday when I noticed this I beaned him myself, he had a small one....soooo, that's a good thing:)
Becky
Well, thanks...
I guess I just worry to much.
